Garden Ministry

Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

TIS ALMOST TIME FOR THE LORD TO COME!

“Today is not a day to lose hope, but to gather warmth

from the coldness of others.”

This is the 242nd letter:

Text for the day: Matthew 24:3

“What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

April is a special month to many around the world. It is our aim at Garden Ministry with your help to see that everyone on your email contact list if they will, receive these devotions in that month. The theme for the month will be, “Go light your world”. We can make it happen, by lighting your world.

Our Devotional

As I was walking through the capital of my Bermuda the other day and a lady walked up to me and gave me peace of literature. The heading of the pamphlet read, “THE END OF THE WORLD IS ALMOST HERE!” The literature went on to say that God has set a certain date this year for the judgment of the world. As I turned to make a comment, it was clear that this lady was not in for a conversation, so I kept on walking. Over the next few days, we shall look at same major events that shall precede the Second Coming of Jesus, with one being false teachers. If there was ever a time that all should know what the Bible has to say on this subject, it is now.

In 1902 this subject fascinated the mind of George Washington Sederquist. Born September 10, 1838, in Granville, Nova Scotia, Canada, George like most boys of his time had to keep busy. Originally a Baptist from birth, he later joined the Advent Christian denomination. George is best known as touring America as an evangelist after he moved to Lynn Massachusetts, in 1871. It is said that he is responsible for writing over 60 hymns. One of those hymns is, “Tis almost time for the Lord to come.” “The theme and the title of the tune come from an expression found in Genesis 32:24, “The breaking of the day,” which describes the wrestling of Jacob with the angel. This dawn is taken metaphorically as the end of the earth’s long night which precedes the “breaking of the day” of Christ second coming. By Edward E. White (Singing with Understanding)

’Tis almost time for the Lord to come; I hear the people say.
The stars of heaven are growing dim; it must be the breaking of the day.

Refrain

O it must be the breaking of the day! O it must be the breaking of the day!
The night is almost gone, the day is coming on; O it must be the breaking of the day!

The signs foretold in the sun and moon, In earth and sea and sky,
Aloud proclaim to all mankind, The coming of the Master draweth nigh.

Refrain

It must be time for the waiting church, to cast her pride away.
With girded loins and burning lamps, to look for the breaking of the day.

Refrain

Go quickly out in the streets and lanes, and in the broad highway,
And call the maimed, the halt, and blind, To be ready for the breaking of the day.

Refrain

There is a fifth stanza that was omitted:

There must be those in the field of sin, far from the fold way; who once were happy in Jesus’ love, and look for the breaking of the day.

O it must be the breaking of the day! O it must be the breaking of the day! The night is almost gone, the day is coming on; O it must be the breaking of the day! After many years of service for his master, George Washington Sederquist died in 1921. May we be just as faithful to Jesus like, George Washington Sederquist!
