If you ever travel to India, you must make the Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu, a sure stop. At the entrance of the bridge you can see a picture of a weeping man holding some human body parts close to his chest. This bridge was built during the British rule in India and it was constructed in such a way that the center portion of the bridge could be lifted with the help of huge wheels, so that ships could easily pass under the bridge. On the bridge, roads and rail tracks are laid for trains and other vehicles to pass, which was opened for
During its early days of operation, a middle aged man was appointed to roll the wheels up and down when ships arrived. One day he saw a train slowly approaching, while he was pulling back the bridge after a ship quietly passed beneath. He had to pull back quickly or else there would be a fatal accident and thousands would have died. At that time, his nine year old son was coming with lunch for him. When he saw his father struggling with the wheels, he put the lunch box down and started helping him to roll the wheels to put the bridge back. Suddenly, his son's finger got caught inside the wheel and he started crying out. At this time if the father tries to save his son, the bridge could not be put back on time. He had no other option but to ignore his son's cry. With all his strength he kept on rolling the wheels to down the bridge. As the wheels rolled on, his son slowly started slipping away into the huge machine.
Tears rolled down his father's cheeks, but he ignored his son's cry. If he tried to save him, the train will surely fall into the sea and thousands of people will die. Slowly the boy's whole body fell into the machine and his father could hear his bones breaking one by one, until with a loud sound, his head cracked.
The train with thousands of passengers slowly rolled on the rails, without knowing what had happened there.
Though this man performed his duty honestly, he lost his only loving son. With extreme lamentation, he pulled out his son's body parts from the machine and held it close to his chest and cried bitterly. The British Government later honored that man and in memory of this incident they placed the picture of this weeping man holding his son’s human body parts close to his chest at the entrance of the bridge.” (Taken from the history of India)
As they marched Jesus out of the judgment hall, and up to Calvary, little did they know that angels where ready to help their commander, at His wish. At the time of the evening sacrifice, as the priest was ready to kill the lamb, Jesus the true lamb had died. After they laid Him in the tomb, they kept the Sabbath. But very early, the first day of the week, Jesus arose from the dead. Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross, is the central and most important fundamental, tenet of the Christian faith. Jesus Christ is God’s only plan of eternal salvation for the entire world.
The Bible makes it clear that Jesus went back to Heaven to finish His work of redemption. But when this work is done, He will come again to take all who love Him where He is. On that day all the redeemed of the earth shall say, "Lo this is our God and He shall save us," (Isaiah 25:9).
Throughout the ceaseless ages, all in the heavens and all on the earth shall shout with joy to God the Father, for allowing His only son, Jesus, to come to this earth and die on Calvary, be buried in a tomb, and be raised, (John 2:19-21 / John 2:22 / Romans 6:4 / Romans 8:11 / John 3:16-17). This was truly a father’s sacrifice.
God desires to save all mankind; that is, we must chose salvation individually. God also desires to save all mankind; that is all men without distinction of race, nationality, or social position. But this can only be through the blood of Jesus. Without Jesus dying and shedding His blood on the cross, there would be no forgiveness and no remission of our sins, (1 John 1:7 / Ephesians 1:7 / Ephesians 2:13 / Leviticus 17:11 / Romans 5:19).
Something else happened that day when Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins. The Bible tells us that Jesus also defeated Satan and all of the powers of darkness that day! (Hebrews 2:14 / Colossians 1:13 / Colossians 2:15 / 1 John 3:8 / Revelation 12:11)
As we reflect on Jesus on the cross today, may we see the Fathers love anew. That when He comes we may all be ready to meet Him, (John 6:40 / John 3:16-19 / 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
