Garden Ministry

Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

The final steps of Jesus (Part 7) “Come with me to Gethsemane”

“Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.”

Psalm 36:5

This is the 239th letter:

Text for the day: Luke 22:45- 46

“When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.” Why are you sleeping?" he asked them. "Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation."

April is a special month to many around the world. It is our aim at Garden Ministry with your help to see that everyone on your email contact list if they will, receive these devotions in that month. The theme for the month will be, “Go light your world”. We can make it happen, by lighting your world.

Our Devotional

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, Sit down here while I go over yonder and pray. And taking with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to show grief and distress of mind and was deeply depressed. Then He said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me. These are some of Jesus' final words to all of His disciples before His crucifixion on Calvary’s tree. After Jesus finished eating the Passover Supper with His disciples, they left with a song on their lips as they made their way to one of Jesus’ favorite places of retreat.

The garden, better know as Gethsemane, was the place chosen for this quiet time with the disciples and God the father. As they neared the gate of the garden, a strange silent took over their master. Sometimes when things are dark and you feel that there is no one to talk to, then silence is golden. For Jesus, He was about to enter a terrible night of agony and pain, but to the disciples, this was the start of the first day of fear. The closer they got to the garden; Jesus began to feel what it was to be shut out from His Father love. All His life, it was the joy of the Godhead to be one with each other, but now because of sin, Jesus our lamb was feeling the separation. As He entered into the garden with the disciples, he asked all beside three to sit and wait. As Peter, James, and John walked with him further into the garden, He told them to watch with Him in prayer. (Mark 14:32-34)

As the guilt of sin with its terrible weight was felt, Jesus feared losing the love that He and the Father shared before the world began. It’s not until we feel the awful displeasure of the Father against evil, that we will force from our lips the same words of Jesus, "My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death.” Like Jesus told Peter, James, and John, to "Tarry and watch with Him." Today Gods' word to His people is to watch. But their watching should not be with a savour who is praying in Gethsemane, but for souls who are looking for the second coming of His son. Secondly they are to watch that they have made their calling and election sure. (Matthew 24:42-51 / 2 Peter 1:10-11)

After Jesus prayers the third time, "Not my will, but the will be done, He is ministered to by an angel, and His head is pointed toward Heaven. Notice the prayer of Jesus as found in (Luke 22:42)

1. Address. "Father"

2. Condition. "If you are willing..."

3. Petition. "Take this cup from me..."

4. Submission. "... yet not my will, but yours be done."

When we pray, we ought to remember these steps also. As the veil is open for Jesus, He see’s the millions of people who will gain victory over sins because of His death and suffering. Sometime we need to pray that God will show us the bigger picture in what ever we are going through, and walk into Gethsemane and leave it there like Jesus. You may be feeling down today or feel like giving in because the pressures of life are too much for you, “Hold on”! You may be in a storm of depression and or discouragement, don’t give in, help is coming, “Hold on”! You may be under intense pressure, to the cracking point, but hold on even as Jesus held on, don’t give up, just “Hold on”!

As the Roman soldiers, priests and Judas, gathered about Christ to take Him in the garden, Jesus willingly gave Himself into their hands. Meantime His disciples stood terrified as they saw Jesus permit Him self to be bound and taken away, (John 18:12) May God bless all who are tried for their faith, even to the point of falsely accused and locked up like Jesus was.
