Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

“The Light house”

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Philippians 2:15

This is the 229th letter:

Text for the day: Matthew 5:14-16 (King James Version)

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill

cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it

under a bushel, but on a candlestick and it giveth light

unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine

before men, that they may see your good works, and

glorify your Father which is in heaven.

April is a special month to many around the world. It is

our aim at Garden Ministry with your help to see that

everyone on your email contact list if they will, receive

these devotions in that month. The theme for the month

will be, “Go light your world”. We can make it happen.

Light your world.

Our Devotional

In my country “Bermuda,” there sets on a high hill called Gibbs Hill in the parish of Southampton, a lighthouse called “The Gibbs Hill lighthouse. This beautifully tall white building constructed in 1844 is the oldest cast iron lighthouse in the world. While it is certainly not extremely tall in the lighthouse standards, the hill that it stands on is one of the highest on the island, some 245 feet high while the lighthouse itself measures 117 feet, when combining the two is 362 feet high. Until 1964, most of the light was run by hand, but in June of that year, the whole system was automated and runs on electricity. The lighthouse has a 1,000 watt bulb that sits inside a lens revolving in a trough of 1,200 pounds of mercury. The light beam it emits can be seen by ships 40 miles away and from a distance of 120 miles by a plane flying at 10,000 feet.

As the lighthouse is a beacon light of survival to those who are in danger, the Bible pictures Jesus, as the light of the world to all in spiritual distress. You would be surprise, but when speaking of the disciples, both those of His day and His modern day disciples, Jesus calls them the lights of the world or light bearers. (John 8:12; John 9:5; Matthew 5:14) Have you ever wondered how far can one go, without a light to guide them? Everything living, you name it, on dry land or under the sea, depends on light. When you reevaluate creation week proper, you see that light was the most important part of Gods plan for the survival of all things. In Genesis 1:1-3, “God said, let there be light”. If you are reading the Bible like me, notice the light that was created on the first day of creation week did not come from the sun, moon, and stars, because they where created on the fourth day, (Genesis 1:14-18).

Without light there could be no life; and as the Creator began the work of bringing order from chaos and of introducing various forms of plant and animal life upon the earth, it was essential that there be light. So what was this light that was created on day one of creation week? Firstly, light is a visible form of energy, which by its action on created life transforms. The Scriptures reveal that the work of creation was a supernatural process; thus, our view of origins is shaped by the Biblical record. Through the centuries many have asked, how did God create all things? We are not told the physical mechanism by which God created, so we do not know how He did it. However, we are told that it was accomplished by the power of His word (Genesis 1:3; Psalm 33:6; Hebrews 11:3).

From a Biblical contexts, light comes from God (e.g., Isaiah 60:20; Revelation 21:23; Revelation 22:5). Just as light is a symbol of the divine presence of God, the physical light shining from a person is also the symbol of an internal heavenly presence. The Bible says, “God is light” (1 John 1:5; John 1:4; John 8:12; John 12:46; Ephesians 5:8).

The world as it now stands, is in its worst morally darkness ever in history, and to be truthful, it will get worst before it gets better. But God’s purpose knows no end! His object to manifest his glory amid the moral darkness will prevail, attracting men and women to the light of salvation.

If you are looking for a change in lifestyle and outlook, come to Jesus. Only He can change your life of chaos, and make you a new creature, (1 Corinthians 5:17). In other words the shadows of sin, uncertainty, and discouragement have now ceased, because Jesus the son of righteousness has come into your life with healing in His wings, (Malachi 4:2; John 3:21; 1 John 2:10; 1 John 1:7; 1 Peter 2:9; 2 Peter 1:19).

As it was in the beginning when God said let there be light, the same thing takes place in the child of God, the day Jesus comes into their life. Just as lighthouses protect and guide sailors or others in need, God will protect and guide you. There may be a spirit of chaos in your life today, let God speak light to you. You may by one of many who has been given the news that your job and service is no longer needed, let God speak light into your life, “your gonna make it”! If you feel that you are being covered with darkness, than stop and pray, let God bring light to you. It is time for the day spring to arise in your life, that your shadows may disappear, (Luke 1:78-79). Let God be your lighthouse.

Today we seek your input in Garden Ministry to these two questions?

1. The light provided on Day 1 of creation week, was it the light of God's presence or from some other object created?

2. Was the light on day one of creation week just provided for the earth only, or the entire universe?
