Garden Ministry

Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Above All

We must never depend on human strength or wisdom to form noble characters, but on the mighty power of God.
This is the 206th letter:
Text for the day: Proverbs 11:3 (NIV)
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Our Theme for the day: (Above All)

Our Devotional

A good character is more precious than worldly possessions. To understand this point, “When most people think of Michael W. Smith, they think of his singing and writing of spiritual songs. Although Michael has made a lot of money from his music, he prizes his walk with the Lord of greater importance. Like Michael everyone who has ever lived on the earth is known by their own unique character. But what is character? One dictionary defines character, in the sense we are considering here, as "the complex of mental and ethical traits marking a person." In another dictionary, character is said to be "the stable and distinctive qualities built into an individual's life which determine his or her response regardless of circumstances."
In other words good character is defined as the strength of moral fiber. Can you inherit a good character? No! A noble, all-around character is not inherited; neither can it come by accident. Can you develop a noble character in a group effort? No! A noble character can only be developed by individual effort through the merits and grace of Christ. It is important to remember that talent is a gift from God but character is a choice.
Four Steps for building a good character:
Step 1 Daily prayer:
Prayer is an essential part to our spiritual growth in grace. We should accustom ourselves to lifting our thoughts often to God in prayer.
Step 2 Spiritual foods:
As is temporal food to the physical well-being, so is the spiritual food.
Step 3 Keep your mind stayed on Jesus:
Keeping the mind from wandering is both God’s part and your part. God has promised to keep you from falling (Jude 24), our part is to keep our mind stayed on him. (Isaiah 26:3) This is Gods keeping and bringing back formula if you have fallen into sin or are thinking about committing sin. The text goes on to say, “Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: (verse 4)
Step 4 God’s Persevering effort:
We cannot for one moment separate ourselves from Christ without losing your safety. We may have God’s presence to attend us at every step, but only by observing the conditions which He Himself has laid down.
Remember, God has given us talents, and power of the mind, that by His Holy Spirit we may form noble characters. Today don’t be afraid of hard work, because it opens the door to perfection. When you’re in a battle with self and feel like giving in “say no I will fight on!” Criticize yourself if need be about your hereditary tendencies, and never give in. You must purpose in your heart to win the conflict after conflict until you have won the battle and formed a good character. Finally, Jesus never gave up, so why should you? He was the most perfect person in character that this world has ever known. Let us resemble Him today!

Kamillah will undergo surgery to have a pacemaker implanted on March 2, 2011. She is asking family and friends to pray with her for success. Genevieve and her daughter, Kamillah, know that our heavenly Father is able to do all things, at all times and in all places and they are confident that all will go well with the procedure. Genevieve asks that we request to have Kamillah and her husband, Hasan Sharif placed on the prayer list as well.

Around the world:

Ø Calls are still coming in for the people of Libya. As the death toll rises families are being pulled apart through fear.

Ø Word is coming in that it is going to take years before balance is brought back to New Zealand after an earthquake hit the country last week. Let us keep them in prayer and help where we can.
Remember that the true meaning of ASAP: "Always Say a Prayer"
A person who loves the Bible, will also love to pray, and a person who loves to pray will
delight themselves in the Bible.
