Text for the day: Nehemiah 9:17
They refused to obey, and they were not mindful of your wonders that you did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion they appointed a leader to return to their bondage. But you are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them.
Our Devotional
With a high rate of pedophile rings being discovered world wide, and the civil courts in Malaysia deciding that all lawyers in Islamic courts must be Muslim and not Christian. Many are questioning their rights to freedom of speech, press, and religion. Sometimes we take so much for granted, but when it’s gone, we stand in the streets and cry. Just like many of these eastern countries that have laws that prohibit or compliment certain lifestyles and worship. God has a standard that prohibits or compliments the lifestyle and worship of the people of the world. And anything short of this is unaccepted.
But if they would be faithful to obey all His statutes through Christ Jesus, He looks at them as if they are holy and righteous. Secondly, “He would empower those that obey His statutes,” that they would carry a spirit of conviction to the hearts of all unbelieving persons, that they should turn from wickedness’ to holiness. We can not fool ourselves, if we are not sanctified by the truth we profess; our course of action will not be changed.
The longer one violates their conscience, the harder their hearts become against holiness. As one stiffens their neck, and refusing to put away their sins and correct their wrongs by humble confession, repentance, and humiliation, they choose their own way, and are given up to the same, and are finally led captive by Satan at his will. So what are the actions of those who have harden their minds against holiness? You would be surprise, but they become quite bold, because their open sin is not concealed anymore. They may appear quite prosperous, in these worlds’ goods, and may deceive men, but God cannot be deceived. The Bible tells us, “Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11)
If the verse stopped there, we may all ask if there is any hope for us. But the Bible goes on by saying, “Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.” (Verse 12) Justice demands that sin be not merely pardoned, but the death penalty must be executed. But God is ready to pardon, He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and will forsake none that come to Him. (Nehemiah 9:17) If you need to be healed of you’re harden heart, do not reject God’s offer of mercy today, not one who trusts in His merits will be left to perish. . . .
You may feel sinful and undone. You may be held Captive by Satan, but it is just on this account that you need a Saviour. If you have sins to confess, lose no time. These moments are golden. Why not confess your sins, for God is faithful and just to forgive you of your sins, and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1: 9). Remember Gods mercy and truth are promised to the humble and those who repent, but His judgments are prepared for the sinful and rebellious.
