Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, but faith looks up knowing tomorrow will hold the blessings of God.
This is the 218th letter:
Text for the day: Hebrews 11:8-10 (King James Version)
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Our Devotional
Moving house could sometimes be a stressful experience to anyone. With the many things to do and undo, it can take up more than a day or even weeks. The unpacking and the rearranging, this could be a nightmare, but it’s all apart of moving. When God called Abram from Ur, he wasn’t just moving house, “He was being called to a faith committed venture for life.” Like many of us who have been given the privilege to serve our fellowman, we need to always remember that we like Abram are called to a faith committed venture for life. It could be said by many of God’s called out people today, like Abram they don’t know where they are going. But by faith they are trusting in God.
"By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went." (Hebrews 11:8) Abraham's unquestioning obedience is one of the most striking evidences of faith to be found in the entire Bible. To him, faith was "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Relying upon the divine promises, without the least outward assurance of its fulfillment, he abandoned home, friends, and his native land. With blind faith he went forth, knowing not whither, to follow where God should lead at times, but He still had faith.
The Bible goes on to say, " By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise." (Hebrews 11:9) It was no light test that was thus brought upon Abraham, no small sacrifice that was required of him. There were strong ties to bind him to his country, his friends, and his home. But he did not hesitate to obey the call. He had no questions to ask concerning the land of promise—whether it was good or bad for cattle, livestock, and planting; which would increase his wealth or break him financially. All he knew was God has spoken, and He must obey. To him the happiest place on earth was where God would have him to be.
Many are still tested as was Abraham. Some hear, and others do not hear the voice of God speaking directly from the heaven. But He is still calling. But how does God call His people today? In the same method He called them years ago, “By the teachings of His word and the events of His providence.” We should never take it lightly that God is calling us. Everything may seem alright for you at this moment, but if God is calling and you hear His voice, He’s calling you. You may find yourself running, but He’s calling you. You may be longing that it would stop, but He’s calling you. He is saying, it’s time to pack up, and follow me. You may be on a road of stubbornness of your evil heart, but Jesus is saying, follow me. (Jeremiah 16:11-13)
You may have forsaken God’s Laws, and precepts, and have despised His name, but He is still pleading, come follow me. Don’t love your family more than me or your wealth more than me, “put me first and all things will be yours.” (Matthew 10:37-39/ Matthew 6:33) Will you not follow God today? To those who follow me, you will be blessed, but to those who refuse you will be cursed. (Jeremiah 26:4-6) Come follow me!
