Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Faith or Foolishness (Part 3) Learning to lean!

God from a human perspective often works in

strange ways. Human are impressed with

bigness and power in any endeavor. But the

Lord values humility and dedication. We must

learn how to step out in humble faith, and than

we will see the power of God.

This is the 219th letter:

Text for the day: Revelation 12:11 (New King James Version)

And they overcame him by the

blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and

they did not love their lives to the death.

Our Devotional

Abraham, "the friend of God," set us a worthy example. Martin Luther the great reformer is known for his long days spent in prayer and confession. Like Abram who build an altar for worship unto God wherever he pitched his tent. Martin Luther was known to pray often. He said, "I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer."
— By Martin Luther

History has it, that whenever Abram removed his tent, the altar remained. (Genesis 12:8) As God allows us all to go through times of refining or testing, Abram’s faith would be tested again, but this time by a lack of water and food for both livestock and humans. (Genesis 12:10) Through it all he did not allow circumstances to shake his faith in God's word. Some have asked the question, “Why did the Lord in His providence allow this trial to come upon Abram?” Better still, why does the Lord allow trials to come our way? The only answer we have was to teach him as well as us, lessons of submission, patience, and faith. (Romans 10:17) Every time we go through a trail, little do we realize, but these lessons of faith are placed on the record of the mind, for the benefit of all who should afterward be called to endure affliction as a witness. (Revelation 12:11) This is why the old timers use to say, my faith will straighten your faith.

“God leads His children by a way that they know not, but He does not forget or cast off those who put their trust in Him. He permitted affliction to come upon Job, but He did not forsake him. He allowed the beloved John to be exiled to lonely Patmos, but the Son of God met him there, and his vision was filled with scenes of immortal glory. God permits trials to assail His people, that by their constancy and obedience they themselves may be spiritually enriched, and that their example may be a source of strength to others. "I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil." (Jeremiah 29:11). The very trials that task our faith most severely and make it seem that God has forsaken us, are to lead us closer to Christ, that we may lay all our burdens at His feet and experience the peace which He will give us in exchange.” PP 114

When you read Genesis 12:11-20/ Genesis 13:1, there is no sound explanation for Abram’s lack of faith and foolishness in encouraging his wife to lie. But as it was then it’s still the same today that lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight. (Proverbs 12:22) Abram discovered that human cunning is worthless and that deliverance from fear and perplexity comes only from the Lord. (Psalm 105:14-15)

Although Abram did not tell a complete lie, because Sarai was his half sister, (Genesis 20:12) he still lied, because she was his wife also. How could a woman who was 65 years old, look so attractive and young? It can blow the mind! But look around today and see the lady’s 65 and over looking so good, and the men just as good-looking. Abram like us had many lessons to learn. Like, man’s extremity is God’s opportunity, and it is by painful testing that God disciplines His people. The power that some of God’s children possess for the advancement of His work, can only be brought forth by putting these persons through the greatest test. It is then; they see their defects and weaknesses in their true character, and long for cleansing. Remember only God can keep you from falling today, lean on Him.
