Garden Ministry

Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Holiness is what I long for! (Part 4) Strait Gate Religion

Holiness is not exemption from conflict, but

victory through conflict.

By G. Campbell Morgan

This is the 215th letter:

Text for the day: Matthew 7:13-14 (King James Version)

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Our Devotional

Have you ever read the gospels, “Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all the way through? Did you not notice that there are recurrences of events in them all? I think the most interesting thing about them all is that each writer shares his experience with Jesus in his own way. The feeding of the five thousand in Matthew 14:-13-21, M ark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-14.

Yet there are times when only three of the four gospels (or there may be only one) that would carry the testimony of the writer with Jesus. We all have an experience with Jesus that we can testify of like the disciples. Over the last two days we have read and heard the testimonies of people who have had a personal experience through Garden Ministry with the Lord. We pray that you will share your testimony with us also.

One of my favorite Bible text on this subject of holiness is found in Matthew 7:13-14 which reads, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” In other words "Strive [agonize] to enter in at the strait gate; for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able."

In the days in which we live there are many professing Christians who are not all Christians at heart. The Bible calls the church Zion and Zion which is the church is not all well. There are sinners in Zion, even as there were in ancient Israel. Isaiah God’s prophet for his day and for our day speaks of them in referring to the day of the Lord: " Hear, you who are afar off, what I have done; And you who are near, acknowledge my might.” The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?” He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, He who despises the gain of oppressions, Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes, Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, And shuts his eyes from seeing evil: He will dwell on high; His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, His water will be sure.” (Isaiah 33:13-16)

To be truthful, what we have seen over the last few weeks on planet earth in the area of anti-government protesters, drug killings coupled with gang killings, earthquakes, and tsunami’s, are only the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:8) In other words, there are fearful, trying days just before us, but many are not ready. Those longing for holiness and righteousness are but a few in comparison to the millions of people living on earth. The call today is, stand pure, stand holy, stand righteous, from the evil and lust amid the perils and corruptions of this degenerate age.

Only you know your need of change, where by Jesus says, and I repeat, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
