Character is influence and development by our choice.
This is the 208th letter:
Text for the day: Proverbs 11:3
“The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the
perverseness of the transgressors shall destroy them.”
Our Theme for the day: (CHOICES)
Our Devotional
Today we are looking at the choices we make and of how they form character. The B iblical record points out that after Judah was conquered by B abylon in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah . Daniel and his companions had been taken to B abylon . They were part of the first company of captives whom Nebuchadnezzar brought from Jerusalem into the land of Shinar .
As king Nebuchadnezzar came into B abylon with the best of the royal family and of the nobles, all eyes where on them. People from all parts of the kingdom of B abylon came to get a look at the new subjects. After they became settled, there came a day when the best of the best from Judah were to be educated and nourished for three years for special duty. That at the end of time allotted, they might be tested with the best of the best in B abylon by the king himself. (Daniel 1:4-5)
Daniel was among those called or conscripted, but he “resolved not to defile himself” with the king's rich and dainty foods that he [ate] or by [drinking] the wine which he drank. (Daniel 1:8) Choices! Our choices are the steps that lead to formulating our character. The most important step is the first. There may be someone who is caught up with drug abuse, or may be stepping out on your marriage vows, and now you are sleeping with someone Else. It’s all about choices!
You may be held in trust of some one’s money, or hold the keys to the business. Some in these areas have broken their trust, but for you today, “it’s about choices!” No matter what you do, or where you go in life, “it’s about choices!” That godly choice was an important step in formulating an unassailable integrity in Daniels life. The scriptures go on by saying after a ten day trail Daniel with three others where allowed to remain on their special diet. (V erses 12- 16)
At the end of the three year test, these men, “Daniel, Hananiah, M ishael and Azariah, who’s names where changed to B elteshazzar, Shadrach, M eshach, and Abednego” (Daniel 1:7) came forth ten times better in appearance, and wiser than all the [learned] in all the kingdom of B abylon . (V erses 18-20) Solomon said it right in one of his dark sayings; “The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perverseness of the transgressors shall destroy them.” (Proverbs 11:3)
Finally, the first chapter of Daniel teaches one of the greatest of all lessons, diet. Some may not love to hear it, yet research has proved that it is true, “what we eat and drink has an influence upon the powers of the mind, and that if we would have healthful bodies and clear minds, we must be careful of our diet.” It could be said that many are careless in this matter, and eat simply to gratify taste, where by the digestive organs are impaired, and the brain is confused, and neither can act their parts as fully as God intended they should. Today; “allow your integrity to guide you, that your foolishness may not destroy you.”
