“I do not pray for success, I ask for faithfulness.”
By the late Mother Teresa
This is the 225th letter:
Text for the day: Genesis 18:19 (King James Version)
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
April is a special month to many around the world. It is our aim at Garden
Our Devotional
Have you ever been out to a flower garden lately? Tell me, what type of plants first catches your eye? Is it the bright colored ones or the not so bright ones? Do you take time to know the names of the types of flowers in a garden? What about designing a flower garden, do you understand the first step one must take, in deciding what types of plants are needed for the space you prefer? These questions can also apply to a vegetable, herb, rose, fruit, or indoor garden.
When you are looking for the best plant, remember some plants can be annuals, biennials or perennials, meaning that they live for one year, two years or more. Planting annuals means that you can redesign your garden each year. On the other hand, planting perennials gives you some recurring elements to work with. You may wish to combine annuals and perennials, dividing them up into various beds. This way, you reduce the yearly expenses and labor of planting annuals while permitting yourself some variation from year to year.
Planting with a theme can be fun in gardening. This could be like planting flowers with aromatic blossoms which make for a sweet-smelling sanctuary. If you like to enjoy watching butterflies, then you select species that attract the winged pollinators. But if you like indoor gardening, you choose species that fare well in these conditions. The life of Abraham is like a garden with many colors that filled with wonderful lessons of faith. It doesn’t matter from what area you look at him, there is always a theme. Just take some time to read your bible and you would see, “The day man talked with angels”, or “The saving of three and the destruction of two wicked cites” (Genesis 18/ Genesis 19).
There are many more lessons that we can learn from the life of Abraham. Like, “The day Abraham met his greatest test and how we will meet ours too”, (Genesis 22:1-24). Our future outline will take us through these and many other accounts in the word of God about the faithfulness of Abraham. If time permit, we could have looked at, “A day of sadness, when death came a knocking,” (Genesis 23:1-20); “The day our family had grown,” (Genesis 24:1-67); and “You are apart of my family,” (Genesis 25:1-18).
Abraham was a family man and loved everyone associated with his family. Like a garden with beautiful plants, he enjoyed the people he met in the way, and those who lived with him and visited his home. Abraham understood true love. True love is a high and holy principle not awakened by the impulse of the heart which suddenly dies when brought to it severest test. But by the faithfulness to duty true love is manifest. From the day of his calling, Abraham learned lessons of self-denial, kindness, courtesy, and Christian sympathy. Thus love kept him when he would have failed, and happiness became his companion when his heart was broken.
Like Abraham, you are called also by God to minister. May you find your calling in Him today. Remember the Abrahamic life is an example to all who would live by faith, “Full of love and the benevolence of heaven”. Where by the Lord said, “I know him, that he will command his children and his household after me, and they shall keep my ways, to do justice and judgment; that I may bring upon Abraham that which I have spoken of him. May the Lord grant to you, the same blessing!
