This is the 81st letter:
Text for the day: 1Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Our Theme for the day: “Test Day”
Our Devotional
A group of students where sitting in their class room one morning, when the teacher walked in and said, today is your day, you are going to have a test. Not every one is ready for a test when it is called. Sometimes it can take over a month before most students are ready for a test. In the days of Christ the disciples asked Him would He teach them how to pray. As Christ looked upon them He knew that they needed to also understand there was an enemy also longing to lead them away from truth through temptations. As Jesus outlined for them the seven steps in a child of God’s prayer which is, “1) Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy NAME. 2) Thy KINGDOM come. 3) Thy WILL be done on Earth, as it is in heaven. 4) Give us this day our daily BREAD. 5) And FORGIVE us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. 6) Lead us not into TEMPTATION. 7) But deliver us from EVIL. In the six step Jesus taught his disciples to pray that, “He lead them not into temptation, but deliver them from evil: (Matthew 6:13)
Many have asked their pastors or teachers of the Bible for hundreds of years, does God lead us into temptation? The right answer to this question can be found in an understanding of the word temptation in the days of Jesus. Most of the New Testament was written in Greek. The word peirasmos in Greek means" experiment" and "experience" in English; which has reference to a testing, a trying out, a putting to proof by experiment. The same word is used to the disciples at the tragic moment in Gethsemane when they are asked to remain awake: "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." (Matthew 26:40) That night in Gethsemane was an unexpected test for them. The testing of once faith is precious to our heavenly Father. In persecution and trial, these are some of the greatest experiences one can ever be called upon to bare. James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, writes in the book that bares his name. “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers’ temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” (James 1:1-4)
“James goes on by saying, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. But does God tempt mankind? Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (James 1:12-15) There are many things that can hurt a servant leader’s creditability, or their integrity. This leads me to another point, the temptation of the love of money. Not that God doesn’t want his people to be blessed with all the blessings of life, He does. But when it comes to the thing we call money, or the instrument that men has created to differentiate between the rich and poor, or buying and selling, God gives strong council to beware.
“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.” (1 Timothy 6:9) There is also the temptation of being in power. Not that God is against His children leading out, or governing. He is not against such a calling in life. But what God is against is the misuse, or wrong use of power. The flesh loves power, and Satan knows that, and if he could cause you to abuse your power, or covert those in power, then he can cause you to fall through the blindness of power. Many good man and woman have fallen in this area. My fellow servant leaders, God values you, and sees you not as you are, but what you can become as He allows temptations to come your way. The next time when your faith is tested remember, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the Day of Judgment to be punished.” (2 Peter 2:9) Finally, the assurance from the Lord to you today is, “since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth. (Revelation 3:10 New International Version)
