Text for the day: John 10:10 (New International Version)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Our Theme for the day: “The All Time Champion”
Our Devotional
In 1987 if you where listening to gospel music you would have heard of the names Phil Cross and Carolyn Cross. They are known for many projects in the music field but one of their most famous songs is entitle Champion of Love. The lyrics are: “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention? I want to introduce to you. In this corner of the good and the right, stands a champion robed in white His height exceeds the heavens, His weight outweighs the world His reach reaches everywhere, His age is evermore.” The Chorus goes on “He is higher than the highest, greater than the great. No one will ever take His crown away. He's more mighty than the mightiest, He reigns from above. He's the all-time undisputed, undefeated champion, of love.” As the song goes on speaking of what Jesus went through for you and me on
Satan well knew where there is no law there is no sin. He also knew that justice is the foundation of God’s throne, and the fruit of that foundation is love. It had been Satan's purpose to try to divorce mercy from truth and justice. He sought to prove that the righteousness of God's law is an enemy to peace. But Christ shows that in God's plan they are indissolubly joined together; the one cannot exist without the other. "Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other." Ps. 85:10. This text was finally fulfilled as Christ laid down his life for mankind, and Satan caused a spirit of murder to seal the hearts of the mob to put him to death. Now “the last link of sympathy between Satan and the heavenly world was broken.” (DA 761) From Adam’s day till the cross Satan was known as the champion of this world, but now through Christ’s death He rose to reclaim the title” "Champion of Love.” It is clear that Phil and Carolyn had a scriptural reference to their song. In Psalm 57:10 they said this was there inspiration which says, “For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.” As the angels watch in amazement as their commander and chief cried out on the cross, “It is finished” they rejoiced. Although they did not then understand the full plan of redemption, they knew that the destruction of sin and Satan was forever made certain. The angels also know that mankind would ever be made assured and that the universe would forever be made eternally secure.
It was to this end that Christ came to this earth and he fully comprehended the results of His sacrifice upon the cross. Today, although the battle is over, and Jesus had won the victory over Satan and has the keys of hell and death. Satan has made up in his mind that if he’s going down, than he will take as many people as possible with him to an eternal death and destruction. We as servant leaders must watch less we fall into temptation and the enemy takes us unaware. In one way that Satan is working is to turn the work of the Lord into a competition. To many servant leaders they are only working to be seen, or make a name for themselves. They have forgotten the true purpose of their calling. Others are running on a high for numbers, but there is no turning of the hearts to Christ. These are they who have received there praise from men; they will have no stars in there crowns because they are in the work for the wrong motive. To you, who work in the open market or in what ever place you work; don’t think that Satan has not sat up his camp at your work place. The truth of the matter is, his main purpose is “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy”. (John 10:10) If this text stopped there, then there would be no hope to the worker in Christ or the man who needs comfort because they are comfortless. The Bible goes on the say, but “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Today there is a woman who needs strength because there is no one there to lift her up. Finally, as we think of Jesus as the all time champion, there are many definitions to define a champion, but in simple language a champion is someone who has won first place in a competition, or one that is superior to his opponent as a warrior and stands alone. This is Jesus. As servant leaders it is time to stand like Jesus, even if it means to stand alone. Would you stand?
