Our Devotional
Moving can become a big challenge particularly if you have become settled in an area for some time. It is said the longer one stays in one place the harder it is to leave, and the harder it is for people to see you go. To transfer from one place or residence to another; can sometimes be a nightmare, resettlement takes time. On the other hand, it is said that staying in one job too long can be equal to career suicide in today's workplace, but how long is too long? How do you know when it's time to move on and what looks good on your resume? In this high opinioned world, the recruiters vary but most agree that anything less than two years is too short to move. At the other end of the scale, five years is said to be the maximum time one should stay particularly if you are the head of a company. Now there are exceptions to the rule but they are few. In today’s work place the two main ingredients that recruiters and potential employers look for in their employee is ambition and commitment. When one changes a job or even a church so frequently, it is assumed that they are not around long enough to make a difference, or they are just not satisfied. But is this true? In step three of our series of “Wealthy, Healthy, and Wise” we will learn the truth to this question and more.
Today we are looking at the third step in gardening which is transplanting. So what is transplanting in the language of gardening? Transplanting is the act of removing something from one location in the garden and introducing it in another location. Why does a farmer or gardener transplant or moves a plant? The main reason why farmers move seedlings or plants from one place to another is to give them more growing space. Is there a special time in the growth cyclical of a plant when it needs to be transplanted? Just like it is a set time in the year when one should transplant roses, which is when they are dormant in early spring or late winter. Most gardeners will say the appropriate time for all transplanting depend on where you live, and the stage of growth of the plant. There are different techniques used for transplanting a small plant, verses a big plant. The bigger the plant the need for special handling and care is needed, verses the smaller plant. In the Bible God refers to His people as plants or trees. Not literal but figuratively God would look upon His people in this way. In speaking of the righteous the Bible says, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper”. (Psalm 1:3) In Isaiah 60:21 it also testifies to this truth by saying, “Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified”.
Just as fruit can only be gathered from a tree or plant, God is honored when His children bear fruits of righteousness. It is to this end why a gardener transplants; they are looking for a fruitful harvest. This brings us to our last point, in gardening there’s such a thing as double transplanting. How and what is double transplanting used for? This form of transplanting is used when seedlings once transplanted are uprooted again some 2-4 weeks after the first transplanted plant is transferred to a final field. This is like when Jesus comes back to second time when the righteous are translated to Heaven. Where God shall make all things new after a time and Heaven an earth shall be our final field of growth. Finally, just like the farmer who transplants seedlings or plants from one place to another to give them more growing space. Sometimes God has to move your ministry also. Not that you want to be moved, or people want you to be moved but God moves you to give you growing space. It is through this growing space that you are able to bring forth a bigger and more fruitful harvest. On the other hand like the plants that are close together and its root are tangled with other root which causes slow growth or no growth. If you are still tangled up in the root system of customs and traditions you can’t grow properly. Today God is looking to move you, and give you a bigger growing space in the sunlight of His word and vineyard. So step out today and you will have a fruitful harvest, don’t look at the nightmare or the resettlement. Good growth all takes time. Go.
