Our Devotional
So far in our series we have looked at the first five steps in gardening which are, ground preparation, sowing of Seed, transplanting, maintenance, and harvesting. Step six in gardening, is the step that will ensure you have a harvest next season. Step six in gardening is seed time or the gathering of seeds. Seed time in gardening language is called seed saving. Seed saving is as old as gardening. There was a time when gardeners considered seed from their favorite plants to be treasures well worth saving from year to year. This is done by setting aside a few plants for harvesting there seeds. Your aim is to get the best ones possible so you can save only that seed. The best reason for saving seeds is because you have a plant you love and want to grow again. Saving your own seed is one of the only guarantees for a reproduction of a good crop.
So when is the ideal time to gather seed? The ideal time for gathering seed will vary from crop to crop, but let the seeds dry on the plant as long as possible. “In the harvest the seed is multiplied. A single grain of wheat, increased by repeated sowings. So widespread may be the influence of a single life, of even a single act. What deeds of love the memory of that alabaster box broken for Christ's anointing has through the long centuries prompted! What countless gifts that contribution, by a poor unnamed widow, of "two mites, which makes a farthing" (Mark 12:42), has brought to the Saviour's cause!” {RC 341} As servant leader we need to value the time for gathering the seed of the word. Do you have a set time mornings, noon time, or evenings to draw from the Bible the seeds of life?
………. God has called you to hold fast to the sure and trustworthy Word as you have been taught. Also you have been called that you may be able both to give stimulating instruction and encouragement in sound (wholesome) doctrine and to refute and convict those who contradict and oppose it [showing the wayward their error]. Finally, in the words of William Blake who said, “In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.” All the blessings of tomorrow are in the seeds of today. Be Faithful in your seed saving time, because it will sustain you in your time of need tomorrow.
Join us tomorrow for step seven in our series of “Wealthy, Healthy, and Wise” and for another ray of sunshine from Garden Ministry.
