Our Devotional
Step five of our series of “Wealthy, Healthy, and Wise” is the harvest. Harvest time is an unusual part of gardening and yet the most exciting time of all the garden season. The reaping of a harvest whether big or small testifies to the sowing time. To most people who shop at the market, they don’t have the faintest idea of what goes into the produce they buy from week to week. The life of a farmer is not an easy life. A farmer works from dawn to eve almost every day of the week. A farmer lives a very humble life also. All through the planting season they are seen working, but during the harvest time there is a supernatural push that is seen in every step of his labour. Some have tried to figure out why this sudden over drive? To the farmer, the time of the harvest is like a waiting and watching time. To the farmers who sends their produce off to market they can not afford to pick there harvest too soon because it will not be at its perfect stage of growth.
Neither can they afford to pick their harvest too late, because they can overripe and rot. But to the home gardener they can watch their tomatoes or other vegetables or fruit as it ripens onto perfection. Matter of fact all vegetables and fruit taste their best when left to ripen in there place of growth. Which leads me to a very important point; we should only harvest the part of the field or plants that are ready for harvest. Like the work in the garden, so is the work in the high working areas of our society and low areas of the work force also. In what ever area of service you provide today remember it’s not good to race your work, because you will make mistakes you will regret. Remember in everything you do you are always working toward the harvest. But the question you must answer is will it be a bitter or sweet harvest. According to our text today we find that Jesus is seen making a cry to His disciples to pray for help.
Because the field was ready to be picked and there was not enough labors to pick the field less the harvest spoil. Up until this point there was no call for added labourers in the field. One would ask the question why? The fact of the matter is they did not need them because they where all there. Human nature is the same were ever you go; people have a good start in what ever they do but a poor finish. Today there is some-one feeling like giving up with that project which you have been working on, don’t give up. You may find your self in college today and it seems that everything is just coming down on you at the same time, don’t give up you are in the harvest time. You may have brought your house a few years ago and now you’re down to your last payments, but you just can’t meet it, don’t give up have faith. You have been working in your community of which you have been assigned to help people spiritually, and the needs are so many. God’s word to you is, pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. It doesn’t matter where your place of service is today; remember you are called to labour in God’s field. Don’t give up the harvest depends on you.
