The greatness of a man is not measured in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively and in truth. “I do not trust people who don't love themselves and yet tell me, 'I love you.' There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”
This is the 264th letter:
Text for the day: Psalm 146:3
Put not your trust in princes, neither in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
Our Theme for the day is: (I’LL GIVE YOU POWER) Part 6 You Can Trust Me
Our Devotional
Falling in love is not the most easies thing to do, particularly if you have been hurt by someone else. Tom Laforce once said, "A lot of times people don't trust another person because they are making assumptions that aren't true." On the other hand, some say it is silly to put all your trust in people or anything. With this in mind, “The Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible renders Psalm 146:3 as saying, “Put not your trust in princes ... Neither in foreign princes, in alliances and confederacies with them; nor in any at home”. David did not desire his people to put their trust in him, nor in his nobles and courtiers, but in the Lord, who as he said, is “the object of praise, and proper trust.” Princes, though ever so liberal and bountiful, as their name signifies, love to be looked on as benefactors, Luke 22:25.
Who are these princes in David’s day that people put all their confidence and confided in? These were persons of royal blood, protectors, and helpers of the people, who where in reality unreliable. These leaders are likened to political and religious officials of our day. Although these leaders are mighty and powerful, wise and prudent, they are not to be depended upon. They are changeable, fickle, and inconstant; and oftentimes not faithful to their word, but fallacious and deceitful; Psalm 62:9. Mankind may fail you, but God will never fail you. Therefore it is better to trust in the Lord Jehovah, in whom is everlasting strength; who gives all things richly to enjoy; who is unchangeable, and ever abides faithfully; Psalm 118:8-9.
Today, God is calling His people to a spirit of supreme love toward Him. But we cannot render to God supreme love and honor if we do not recognize the Holy Spirit. After Ananias and Sapphira grieved the Holy Spirit, they yielded to their feelings of covetousness. They began to regret their promise made to the church, and soon lost the sweet influence of the blessing that had warmed their hearts with a desire to do large things in behalf of the cause of Christ.
After asking the Lords blessing on the sale of their property, Ananias and Sapphira had made a pledge to give to the Lord the proceeds from the sale of the land. As fate would have it, the Lord blessed the sale, but their hearts were changed. This couple lost hold of their living grasp of earnest faith. By this time their intensity of love for Christ was quenched by another spirit.
But God was still saying to Ananias and Sapphira like He says to us, my child, “Give me your heart and not your garment”.
Before a change can take place, purification through the Holy Spirit must take place in the mind first. Unless this divine principle is brought into the life and practice, there can be no such fruit of righteous borne, which is fervent love for God and His people.
When divine light is shining into the heart with unusual clearness and power, habitual selfishness relaxes its grasp and there is a disposition to give to the cause of God. But none need think that they will be allowed to fulfill the promises then made, without a protest on the part of Satan. Satan is not pleased to see the kingdom God built up.
Finally, sometimes we fail to see the path that God is leading us on because our discernment is beclouded. My fellow brethren, “can you not see that the Holy Spirit is longing to do His work in our lives?” But we must trust Him! Trust is one of the most integral parts of any relationship, whether it be a working one, a friendship or one that's more intimate like a spouse or even God. Today let us allow self to be crucified, that we may experience the opening of our eyes to the fullness of the Holy Spirit, because we learned how to trust.
