“So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:7
This is the 262nd letter:
Text for the day: 1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Our Theme for the day is: (I’LL GIVE YOU POWER) Part 5 After while
Our Devotional
The Satere-Mawe people of the Amazon Jungle in Brazil have a custom that goes back for many years. This custom is for men only as they come to manhood, and embraces the whole community. It is an initiation rite to become a warrior that is use to intentional bullet ant stings into the hands of young men. The ants are first caught and then rendered unconscious by submerging them in a natural sedative and then hundreds of them are woven into a glove made out of leaves (which resembles a large oven mitt). The stingers of the ants are put on the mitt facing inward. When the ants regain consciousness, the mitts are put on the hands of the young men.
The goal of this initiation rite is to keep the glove on for a full ten minutes. When finished, the young men’s hands and part of their arm are temporarily paralyzed because of the ant venom, and they may shake uncontrollably for days. The only "protection" provided is a coating of charcoal on the hands, supposedly to confuse the ants and inhibit their stinging. To fully complete the initiation, however, the young men must go through the ordeal a total of 20 times over the course of several months or even years.
This initiation of these young men of the Satere-Mawe people in the Amazon jungle is like the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which after its completion, brings the believer in Christ to their right position, and prepares them to stand in the day of conflict. Like those young men who stand awaiting their turn to have their mitts put on, “We are standing upon the borders of the greatest event in this world's history, and Satan must not have power over the people of God, causing them to fall and not reach their full potential in Christ.”
You may be questioning as to how fast can the Holy Spirit work in once life? Does He need several months or even years, before one is filled with the fullness of its power? The answer to this question in truth is, it all depends on how willing, are you willing, to be made willing? Putting it another way. The Holy Spirit stand ready to take the things of God to upbraid all, just as fast as you resolve, and act in accordance with the light revealed already to you. God only needs a moment, but we hold up the process by our love of holding on to sin.
As we all await the week-end, may we witness in our lives the deep moving of the Holy Spirit! If you can, “remind three people today that human effort alone will bring only weakness, and failure. On the other hand, we can do nothing without God, and the Lord would do nothing without our hand.”
Looking back at the initiation day among the Satere-Mawe people, when a young man passes the nineteen tests with the ant mitten gloves, there is nothing more in his mind then the last test. Most teachers of the Bible today would love to report that many people are running to the study halls to know more of Jesus. The reality is, most people do not want more of God, any more urgently than He wants all there is on plant earth to know Him, and consecrate their lives to Him in service for the up-building of the Kingdom.
This is a test day for someone and you can’t afford to give in. Is it a separation with a mate that is holding you down, a health concern, an anxiety disorder, a panic attack, or spiritual separation? God’s word to you is, hold on. Only God knows how much more minutes you have to endure, but hold on. The pain may be great, but you will be the victor after while, James 1:12 / 1 Corinthians 10:13 / Romans 8:18. Why are we so surprised when the fiery trial comes our way, when God told us not to be surprised, 1 Peter 4:12? It is time to smile again, and wash your face, because this too shall pass, James 1:2-4.
Is this your initiation day? Do you have one more test before heaven can say you are settled in Jesus and the love of His word? Remember, the more you discover your real need of Jesus, and your real poverty of the Holy Spirit, the more you desire the fullness of the power of God in the person of the Holy Spirit, 2 Corinthians 12:9. God is constantly showing us glimpses of His love, may you be refreshed, and energized as you see, hear, and obey His will today.
