“All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work with Christ. And if we consent, He will so identify Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will, that when obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined and sanctified, will find its highest delight in doing His service.”

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me.

Our Devotional
In a certain church one morning a group of people gathered for Bible school. The subject that morning was on the true object of worship and the first commandment. After every one seemed to have answered the teachers questions that morning, an old man came forward and said, “There is a close relation between obedience and spiritual vision, which leads to worship.” After the old man read Proverbs 29:18 and Psalms 119:18 to the class, then every other class in that church stopped and listens. Was this the moment heaven was waiting for to bring that church to a higher plain of worship? The old man went on to say that, “If we had spiritual vision, it will illuminate the law, which will cause our obedience to the law to increase as well. Once these two components have been elevated then there springs from the heart of mankind a love for the worship of God". To better understand this, let us look at this true story.
“A little child, when he could not speak plainly, would be crying after God, and was greatly desirous to be taught good things. He could not endure to be put to bed without family prayer, but would put his parents upon duty and would with much devotion kneel down and with great patience and delight continue till duty was at an end without the least expression of being weary. He seemed, never so well pleased as when he was engaged in prayer. He could not be satisfied with family prayer but would often be upon his knees by himself in one corner or another. He was much delighted to hear the Word of God either preached or read.” (James Janeway, “A Token for Children”).
The old man went on to say, “In my eighty-four years of living, I have heard the pros and cons of the true object of worship to God. Some have gone down on record as saying that the Law of God is the summary of divine revelation, or the Bible in miniature. This is why Jesus came into the world, “to magnify the law,” and to “make it honorable,” But none make it clearer than the Apostle Paul when he said, “Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.” Romans 3:28-31
In the first commandment, God makes it clear that He is the only true God. Whereby, He is the one true object of worship. The revelation of the one true and eternal God, who alone deserves our honor, praise, and worship, is the first and most important of all men’s needs. When Satan came to Jesus, his primary propose was to cause him to worship him. Matthew 4:3-11
Today on these same grounds he comes to us, to try to cause us to worship him and not God. Let us with a true heart, resolve that we will serve only God, Deuteronomy 6:4-5 / Matthew 22:36-38 / 1 Corinthians 8:4-6.” Finally, as the elderly man went on to speak, he said, “God makes us know through the Bible why we should worship and serve Him.
Only God has the power to create. Psalm 95:3-6 / Psalm 96:8-10 / Psalm 86:8-10 / Isaiah 45:18-22 / Jeremiah 10:10-15.
Only God is worthy of our worship. Revelation 4:10-11.
Only God has the ability to see and foretell the future. Isaiah 41:21-24 / Isaiah 48:3-6
All prophecy originates with God, and is revealed to man by the son through the Holy Spirit, angels, and prophets, apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers; 1 Peter 1:10-11 / 2 Peter 1:19-21 / 1 Corinthians 12:28 / Revelation 1:1 / Ephesians 4:11-14.
Finally, the first commandment condemns and warns against the worship of other gods. Romans 1:25 / Job 31:24-28 / Revelation 17:5 / 2 Chronicles 15:2 / 2 Chronicles 15:15.
An ancient proverb may be good to relook over at this time, “When the half gods go, the real God will arrive.” Today God stands at the door of your heart to claim your allegiance and worship. With Him it is all or none. He accepts no halfhearted service. Why not serve and worship Him, if you don’t now, when? If you would like to reaffirm your commitment to him like me, then take a minute to do so!

Our Prayer for today:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for all the blessings that you have bestowed upon my life. You have given me a second chance at life, when many others didn’t have the opportunity. I want to thank you for all the many things that you have given to me. I may not have a big and fancy house, but I have a roof over my head. I may not have the trendiest clothes, but I am not naked. I may not have a fridge over flowing with food but I do not go hungry. You have given me the gift of life. It is so amazing how good you are to me, when I breathe in Lord you are taking my breathe but you are not finished with me yet so you give it back to me all in a split second. I am so thankful for the second chance you have given to me so that I can witness to others. Please LORD use me today to share this testimony to others that they may come to you. Amen
THIS PRAYER WAS WRITTEN BY VERNESHA SYMONDS: THIS YOUNG LADY LOST HER MOTHER WHEN SHE WAS AROUND SIX AND HER FATHER DIED LAST OCTOBER AND ONLY SIBLING, HER BROTHER DIED LAST MARCH 2011.
