Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Am I my brother's keeper? (Part 9 No violence up here)

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. {Hebrews 10:30}

This is the 204th letter:

Text for the day: Jeremiah 22:3

This is what the LORD says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

Our Theme for the day: “Am I my brother's keeper?” (Part 9 “No violence up here”)

Our Devotional

When God came down to Moses on Mount Sinai to talk with him, and give him His commandments the second time, the Bible says He also proclaimed his name to him. As Moses got up early in the morning and climbed the mount with two tablets of stone. “God descended in the cloud and took up his position there beside him and called out the name, God. After securing Moses in the cleft of the rock, God passed by and called out, "God, God, the God of mercy and grace, endlessly patient, so much love, so deeply true—loyal in love for a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. Still, he doesn't ignore sin. He holds sons and grandsons responsible for a father's sins to the third and even fourth generation." Exodus 34:6-7 (The Message Bible)

The King James Version of the Bible put’s it this way, “God who is merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, the one who keeps mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's, children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:6-7) This was not the first time or the last time God would speak directly with His sons and daughters. The divine voice that Cain had heard in entreaty and admonition, now pronounced the terrible words: "And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand. When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth." (Genesis 4:12)

The Bible pictures God as a searcher who comes looking for His people. He loved us before we first loved Him. (John 3:16 / Ephesians 2:4- 7 / 1 John 4:9-10) Although Cain felt that his punishment was greater than his crime, “all persons who commit crime feel the same!” There is a bigger lesson for all to see, Cain was afraid for his own life that someone would take vengeance on him, but God in His mercy set a mark on him that whosoever should kill him, God would take vengeance on them. (Genesis 4:14-15) It is true that jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance, but God’s word is, don’t go forth, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay. (Proverbs 6:34 / Romans 12:19)

For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause. (
Isaiah 34:8)

As leaders, God has made us to be overseers, of families, communities, work places, schools, and churches. Our duty is to encourage the people to, “Be strong, and do not fear; because your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.” (Isaiah 35:4) The song writer said, “Hold me close, let your love surround me, bring me near, draw me to your side”. As Moses turn and saw the back of God on that day long ago on the mount. May you see His glory today! Remember as God was then, He is still the same today saying, “No violence up here, vengeance in mine saith the Lord.”

Much of the capital is being controlled by Gaddafi gunmen as they roam the streets, with reports of uprisings in western towns such as Misurata, Sabratha and Zawiya. Thousands of foreigners are caught between the fighting as they try to leave, with chaos at the airport. It is said at least 300 people have died in the country's uprising so far.
