Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Am I my brother's keeper (Part 6 Where is your Brother?

Did you not know that the brighter the heavenly light that is reflected from you, the more clearly the sins of the ungodly are revealed, and the more determined will be their efforts to destroy and disturb your peace?

This is the 201st letter:

Text for the day: 1 John 3:11-12

For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

Our Theme for the day: “Am I my brother's keeper?” (Part 6 Where is your Brother?)

Our Devotional

How do you handle rejection when you have done your best, and you are not given your proper accommodation? Do you get upset or do you just play it cool and go on with life. On the other hand, how do you deal with rejection when you know you haven’t done your best? Do you go and ask for forgiveness and apologize for your willful neglect, or do you get upset and long to see the worst to those who have rejected you? When Cain saw that his offering was not accepted but rejected by God many years ago, he got angry with the Lord and with his brother Abel.

At this stage in both of the sons of Adam and Eve’s life, they know from there father’s example of offering sacrifices to God that He only accepted what He ordained. “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22 (New Living Translation)

Abel chose to obey God instead of joining his brother in rebellion against Him. There is a lesson here! How many people have gone from the only hope for men because they have chosen rebellion instead of obedience!  This leds me to a very important point, “Have you not notice how those who do the most wrong make the most noise?”

Cain would not acknowledge his wrong, but would go on complaining of the injustice of God and to cherish jealousy and hatred in his heart of Abel. Like many today, when Cain saw that he couldn’t gain any sympathy, so in anger the Bible points out, he killed his only brother. Can we learn any lessons from this experience to help us today? Yes!

1.    Abel was hated and finally killed by his brother for being obedient to God; over half of those murdered today are also hated first by the perpetrator and then killed.

2.    Cain always loved the easy way, even if it meant sacrificing the right in the face of wrong, he represents those who are always trying to pull the cover over someone’s eye. These are they who God calls wicked; and shall finally say enter all of you into the fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

3.    Abel represents those who would not leave their work until it’s methodically finished. These are they who are obedient to principle, and not men’s pledge. God will call them righteous in the day He makes up his jewels.

4.    Abel's life of obedience and unswerving faith was to Cain a perpetual reproof. In like manner, “Everyone that doeth evil hateth those who live in the light, lest their deeds should be reproved." John 3:20.

Finally, Cain was not satisfied until he rose up and murdered Abel. “This was the first example of the enmity that God had declared would exist between the serpent and the seed of the woman--between Satan and his subjects and Christ and His followers. Through man's sin, Satan had gained control of the human race, but Christ would enable them to cast off his yoke.” May we find that yoke today?
