Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

It's Me

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, for your heart will be upon your earthly treasures; but lay up for yourselves treasures in the heavens, in bags which wax not old. The question is asked by so many, “How can this be done?” By constantly regarding your property as the Lord's and not your own, and yourselves as stewards of God, earnest, anxious, watching, to see what you can do in any direction to help advance the cause of God.

This is the 195th letter

Text for the day: Matthew 12:37 New King James Version)

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

Our Theme for the day: “IT’S ME”

Our Devotional

When I was a young boy around eleven years old, I use to love going to church. But for singing only! When ever the time came for a song to be sung or singing by the congregation this was my favorite time of the service. The preachers were very good in those days also. When ever those preachers got up to preach, it seemed like God had come down Himself to speak directly through those old time preachers!”

Some may disagree, but the songs of the church in those days had a deeper meaning to the experience of the people in those days. Some may not believe it, but in those days if you had come home, you would hear grand-ma singing as she and mother were cutting up vegetables for the evening soup for supper. Sometimes deep in the night you would here some humming of some spiritual song as the candle was being blown out. If you saw someone washing clothes with the wash-board, it was common to hear singing of hymns. I can still hear them ringing in my ears.

Precious Lord, take my hand, Safe in the arms of Jesus, Satisfied with Jesus, and Savior, like a shepherd lead us.

These were some of the many songs, that meant so much to people in those days. There was one song that still does something for me today, “IT'S ME, IT'S ME, IT’S ME, O LORD, STANDING IN THE NEED OF PRAYER”. If you want to bring down the tears, then start singing that song. But note, you can’t sing it if you don’t mean it, because you will be singing a lie. On this point of singing, and not meaning a word you are singing about let us closely examine.

Did you not know that if you sing a song unto the Lord and don’t mean it, it is a lie you are singing? Now hold up before you go running of the hill and say that’s not true! We are encouraged before we sing to get some understanding of the song we are about to sing. You may ask why? Because some songs are songs of Adoration and we need to know why we are praising God. Has God done something for you or someone close to you? Then you ought to praise Him. Some songs are songs of commitment, and if you are not willing to submit to the will of God, then you ought to ask the Lord to make you willing so you can sing in truth. Other songs are songs of consecration, faith and trust, prayer, salvation and redemption, unity, thankfulness, hope, comfort and forgiveness.

Our text today says, For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Matthew 12:37

The Bible goes on to say that there shall be no one that practices falsehood in the Kingdom of God. Blessed are those who do His commandments that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. If we love God then we would keep His commandments. Tell me when was the last time you looked at the ninth commandment? Have you not noticed that it speaks about false witness against once neighbor.

So what is a false witness? The definition of a false witness is a person who deliberately gives false testimony, or a person who lies. Lying is devilish. It is satanic. Of Satan it is said, He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44). All lying therefore is devil inspired, and Jesus declared that liars are of their father, the devil. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. (Proverbs 12:22) A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. (Proverbs 19:5)

Among the six things the Lord especially hates are those that lie. (Proverbs 6:17-19)

Finally, the Bible says if we don’t get it right with the way we speak and sing we shall find ourselves out side the Kingdom of God. “But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” (Revelation 22:15)

Today let us practice what we sing, and sing with understanding. “For God is the King of all the earth: let us sing ye praises with understanding unto Him. (Psalm 47:7)

In the words of Paul, “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.” 1 Corinthians 14:15

Why not sing this song with me today?

Chorus:
It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord,
Standing in the need of prayer.
It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord,
Standing in the need of prayer.

1. Not my father, not my mother, but it's me, O Lord,
Standing in the need of prayer.
Not my sister, not my brother, but it's me, O Lord,
Standing in the need of prayer.
Chorus:

2. Not the people that are shouting, but it's me,
O Lord, Standing in the need of prayer.
It’s not the members I've been doubting, but it's me,
O Lord, Standing in the need of prayer.
Chorus:

3. Not the preacher, not the sinner, but it's me,
O Lord, Standing in the need of prayer.
Not the deacon, not the teacher, but it's me,
O Lord, Standing in the need of prayer.

Chorus:
