“The world is a dangerous place. Not because of the
people who are evil; but because of the people who don't
do anything about it." By Albert Einstein
One reason why people are unable to do anything about a desire for evil can be found in this statement.
“The world is filled with self-indulgence of every kind. Because of the benumbing influence of stimulants and narcotics the minds of many are unable to discern between the sacred and the common.” Counsels on Health, page 432.
This is the 248th letter:
Text for the day: Jeremiah 25:32
“Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.”
Our Devotional
In the religion of the worship of Buddha they ask a question about evil and answer it. "What is evil? Killing is evil, lying is evil, slandering is evil, abuse is evil, and gossip is evil: envy is evil, hatred is evil, to cling to false doctrine is evil; all these things are evil. Then they ask, what is the root of evil? Desire is the root of evil, illusion is the root of evil." But is this true? Is there a deeper reason for evil in our world?
There is a saying from years ago, "Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil, - and you'll never be invited to a party.” We may all smile at this, but there is a whole lot of truth in these words. "The famous Greek philosopher Epicurus is best known for his school, the Garden. The school specialized in the avoidance of public life and political involvement. The school is also known as the starting point in history for the philosophy of Epicureanism, which was based on simple pleasure, friendship and retirement.
In the days of Epicurus, he was competing with the Academy of Plato and the Lyceum of Aristotle, Epicurusâ School, the Garden, admitted females and even one of his own slaves. His metaphysical teachings on atomism; were latter revived by Pierre Gassendi in the late 16th century. Epicurus was a highly popular philosopher in his time. Epicurus spake many things, one of his quotes was, "Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" "There's too much tendency to attribute to God the evils that man does of his own free will." It is good for all to know that God gives direction, purpose and wisdom to all to exercise his free will in what they believe, and the worship of Him. This is the true essence of love.
But no matter how clear God reveals Himself to men, many have their own perception of Him, and they have their right. But what does the bible say about God, and how does it reveal His stand on the subject of evil?
At a time of an all time high in evil between nations, gangs, and individuals, the big question is, does God have an answer?” Many hundreds of years ago, God gave Jeremiah a vision of our day. Let us read it. “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Behold, disaster shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth.” Jeremiah 25:32
Some translators of the Bible have gone as far as to say that we should "Prepare for the worst! Doomsday! Disaster is spreading from nation to nation. A huge storm is about to rage all across planet Earth." (The Message)
“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Look! Disaster is spreading from nation to nation; a mighty storm is rising from the ends of the earth.” (New International Version, 2011)
Look back at Genesis 6, we see the same sins that brought judgments upon the world in the days of Noah, exist in our day. B ut what was the root of the evil that existed in Noah’s day? The record according to Matthew 24:37-39, was gluttony and drunkenness. It is said that this sin, the indulgence of perverted appetite, inflamed the passions of men, and led to widespread corruption. The violence and evil had reached to heaven, that God said that His spirit shall be withdrawn form the earth, Genesis 6:3. The Bible makes it clear that something needed to be done to remove the moral pollution, so God finally swept the evil from the earth by a Flood.
The evil of our day has not changed, for eating, drinking, and dressing are carried to such excess that they have become crimes. “They are among the marked sins of the last days, and constitute a sign of Christ's soon coming. Time, money, and strength, which belong to the Lord, but which He has entrusted to us, are wasted in superfluities of dress and luxuries for the perverted appetite, which lessen vitality, and bring suffering and decay.”--Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, pages 11, 12.
“God did not create mankind evil, it was through a successions of falls, from Adam's day to ours, each greater than the last, in every species of crime, that has cause mankind to love evil over good. By man's disregard of the very means which God has ordained to shield him from the terrible evils life, they have dug their own pit. So is there an answer? Yes! Obedience to God's law in every respect would save men from intemperance, licentiousness, and disease of every type. No one can violate natural law without suffering the penalty.”--Review and Herald, March 4, 1875.
"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it."
By Dr. Martin King
"...When you have established that one alternative is good and the other is evil; there is no justification for the choice of a mixture. There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil." By Ayn Rand
One day soon, there will be no more night. No more pain.
No more tears. Never crying again, only praises to the great "I AM."
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.
