Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

Your Latter Will Be Greater

"Though all afflictions are evils in themselves, yet they

are good for us, because they discover to us our disease

and tend to our cure."

Tillotson, John

This is the 258th letter:

Text for the day: Isaiah 61:3

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”

Our Devotional

To afflict someone the dictionary say is to distress them physically, or mentally. We have seen so far in our series that some people love to see other people in a state of pain, distress, grief, or in a state of misery. On the other hand causing mental or bodily pain that leads to sickness, loss, calamity, and persecution of someone is not acceptable in the eyes of the Lord. This has been a hard year so far, for many people. Loss of jobs, higher rents, food prices out of control, and the list goes on and on. Human affliction is the worst affliction to be able to overcome and even forgive at times.

Affliction and adversity may cause much inconvenience and even great depression at times, but it is prosperity that is dangerous to spiritual life. Unless we are in constant submission to the will of God, we can’t be sanctified by the truth. We must all pass through the valley of humiliation like Jesus, Isaiah 53, where men depend on God to teach them and to guide their every step, it is there we find comparative safety. It is not until we feel our need of the strong Arm of God that the arm of flesh is broken. Unless we make God our dependence, our view of things will stay distorted and we will finally fall.

The call today is to be a partaker of the divine nature, 2 Peter 1:3-4. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about, in the body, the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 17-18.

One day soon, you who are afflicted, Jesus will come. On that day, you will see that your latter will be greater than your past; you will be blessed, more than you could ask. Despite all that has been done, the best is yet to come. And your latter will be greater, your latter will be greater, your latter will be greater than your past. From June 1 thru 13,there will be no Garden Ministry WEB Page, I will be seeking the LORD'S FACE. I am soliciting your prayers as I visit with my Step-Mother. To this end may God keep you, and bless you, and make his face shine upon you and give you His peace.

The Road of Affliction Part 2 God love' all of us

“Affliction comes to us, not to make us sad but sober;

not to make us sorry but wise.”

Henry Ward Beecher

This is the 257th letter:

Text for the day: James 1:2-3, 12

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Our Devotional

How do you react when you hear that someone is living in sin? Do you act all holy, and spiritual, as if you have never sinned, or do you seek to help them come back to God? To be truthful, most of us stand off, watch, talk about them, and hope that they would pass away in their sins. But is this the spirit of God? No!!! You may ask what is the spirit of heaven to those who a afflicted by their own vice? To only seek and save, Luke 19:10. The next time you are about to walk pass or over look someone who has fallen into sin, remember, some of the best Christians today have come through the road of self affliction.

To those who have fallen into sin, but have found your way back to God, today’s devotion is in honor of the power of the Holy Spirit in you. Consider Frank a twenty six year old, who once worshiped God but turned his back on Him. After four years of living in sin, he has now turned around, and repented of his sins. On Frank’s second week of coming to church he was approached by the deaconess who said to him, I remember you, “You are the big drug pusher from up the road.” “You are not changed, you are still the same”. Was this the right thing to say to Frank? Thank God Frank went on serving God and did not turn back, but there are others that are not so fortunate.

To you who stand on the side and cast stones at those who are trying to find Jesus, God has a word for you. Who are you, says the Lord to pull down your brothers and sisters, when they are trying to get up? Why do you find so much joy in keeping those who are seeking for me? Why do you ask questions like which family are you from, what school did you go to, or do you have a criminal record and set up road blocks drive those in sin future from me?

If you have gone through an affliction and now you have stopped going to church, don’t give up, God still loves you. Re-look at your position, and consider as Paul did that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to the saints, Romans 8:18. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken,” Psalm 34:17-20.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. But God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it, 1 Corinthians 10:13.

In our afflictions, let us learn to gather warmth from negative words and actions. By this the depth of our love to God will be revealed. As you have been afflicted and tested, but have now come back to the Lord, time to admonish and helping others through their afflictions find their purpose in Jesus. Some may condemn you, but the word of God is, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1.

Are you afflicted because of your pass? Let us pray. Have you overcome your affliction and with a cheerful spirit are helping other? Sing praise’s to God. We need to rejoice in our sufferings, and affliction, knowing that this will produce endurance and our endurance will produce character, and our character will produce hope, and when hope is perfected, God will give us the kingdom.

(The Road of Affliction) Part 1

“The Lord gets His best soldiers out of the highlands of

affliction.”

Charles H. Spurgeon

This is the 256th letter:

Text for the day: James 1:2-3, 12

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Our Devotional

The twenty first century has been an unpredictable time for so many across the world. Almost every week, we have seen natural or intentional affliction on mankind. The big question by rulers of nations and statesmen, is how long can we bear under the load of these afflictions, of the events taking place about us. They are also watching the relations that exist among the nations, and the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element.

Today there is a misconception of the Bible and the sure promises that God has given to those who are afflicted. Although God doesn’t bring affliction, yet it is clear from the Bible that He allows it to come our way. Neither is it true that all afflictions are chastisement from God for sin. It is not the will of God to have people go on suffering from day to day. If we sin, He pleads with the transgressor according to His tender mercy to repent. If they repent He will forgive them of their sins. But some form of affliction will be the out growth of the sin committed. This is apart of sowing and reaping.

If you lay down with dogs, you will get up with fleas. In other words, sometimes God allows His people to suffer just to demonstrate the power of His grace. When affliction comes into our life as chastisement, it is never penal [that is, from God as judge], but the chastisement is always remedial [that is, from a loving heavenly Father]. We can learn great lessons from our afflictions, or the afflictions of others that bring joy. The Bible has little to say in praise of men. Little space is given to recounting the virtues of even the best men who have ever lived. This silence is not without purpose; and is not without a lesson.

All the good qualities that men possess are the gift of God; their good deeds are performed by the grace of God through Christ. Since they owe all to God the glory of whatever they are or do belongs to Him alone; they are but instruments in His hands. In the spirit of self-confidence and self-exaltation King David's heart was lead astray from God and he fell from Gods grace. After his sin of adultery was discovered with Bathsheba, and his murder of one of his faithful servants Uriah, he should have been put to death.

Nathan the prophet was bidden to bear a message of reproof to David. It was a message terrible in its severity. God loves the sinner, but he detests their sins. Nathan delivered the divine sentence unflinchingly, yet with much heaven-born wisdom, 2 Samuel 12.

Nathan fixed his eyes upon the king; then, lifting his right hand to heaven, he solemnly declared, "Thou art the man." "Wherefore," he continued, "hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight?" The guilty may attempt, as David had done, to conceal their crime from men; they may seek to bury the evil deed forever from human sight or knowledge; but "all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." Hebrews 4:13. "There is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known." Matthew 10:26.

The prophet's rebuke touched the heart of David; his conscience was aroused and guilt appeared in all its enormity. His soul was bowed in penitence before God. With trembling lips he said, "I have sinned against the Lord." The sentence of death was transferred from David to the child of his sin. Thus the king was given opportunity to repent and he did.

The Lord could not, under any circumstance, sanction iniquity. He could not exercise His power to protect David from the results of his sin as he had protected him from the enmity of Saul. He felt humbled in the eyes of his subjects. His influence was weakened. As a father in his own household, his authority and claim to respect and obedience from his sons, was weakened. A sense of his guilt kept him silent when he should have condemned sin; it made his arm feeble to execute justice in his house. His evil example exerted its influence upon his sons, and God would not interpose to prevent the result. He would permit things to take their natural course, and thus David was severely chastised.

For a whole year after everything was the same until one day the outward evidence of God's displeasure came. There are some who, by pointing to the example of David, try to lessen the guilt of their own sins, but they should learn from the Bible record that the way of transgression is hard. Though like David they should turn from their evil course, the results of sin, even in this life, will be found bitter and hard to bear.

Before the divine sentence was pronounced against David he had begun to reap the fruit of transgression. His conscience was not at rest, (Psalm 32:1-4), but when the message of reproof came to him, he repented of his sins, (Psalm 51:1-17). Instead of endeavoring to conceal his guilt he desired that others might be instructed by the sad history of his fall.

David's repentance was sincere and deep. There was no effort to reduce the severity of his crime; No desire to escape the judgments threatened; this is what inspired his prayer. But he saw the enormity of his transgression against God; he saw the defilement of his soul; he loathed his sin. It was not for pardon only that he prayed, but for purity of heart. Though David had fallen, the Lord lifted him up, (Psalm 32:5-7).

Who so ever is under the reproof of God will humble their soul with confession and repentance, as did David, may be sure that there is hope. Who so ever will in faith accept God's promises, will find pardon. The Lord will never cast away one truly repentant soul. He has given this promise: "Let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me." Isaiah 27:5. "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:7.

Text for the day: Job 19:25-27

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:”

Our Devotional

Today we end our series on “TIS ALMOST TIME FOR THE LORD TO COME!”

Testing time can be a time of confidence to those who have put the time in getting ready for their big day. On the other hand, the time of testing, can offer great difficulty or frustration to those who have not prepared to stand the test. To some they sweat when the time of testing comes. Others chew their pencils; and feel butterflies in their stomachs as the test paper is passed to them.

It's natural to feel some stress when you are put under a test. In fact, sometimes a little adrenaline (a hormone made by your body during times of excitement or stress) is a good thing, some say, to jump-start you. These are some tips that can help you when you are facing a known test.

  • Take time to study. Be sure you've studied and have a proper understanding of the subject or trial.
  • Get enough sleep the night before the test. Your memory recall will be much better if you've had enough rest, and you will not be so frustrated under the trial or test.
  • Listen closely to any instructions. This could be a pass mark or failure.
  • Read the test through first. If something seems unclear before you start, don't panic: ask questions.
  • Stay Focused: Keep your mind on addressing each question or trial individually.
  • Relax. Take four or five deep breaths before and during the test, or go to the beach before, it will relax you.
  • Use extra time wisely. It's usually a good idea to spend any extra time checking over your work.

A person once said, “If you live long enough you will have to face some sort of test some day. To those who love God, those who are "the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28), God has not promised you an easy road with-out trails. On this subject of testing, the Biblical biography has a higher lesson for them who are called to the ministry of sorrow and test. The Bible reminds us, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God" (Isaiah 43:10-13 / Isaiah 44:8)

When God brings us through our test, it serves as a witness to others that He is good, and that His goodness is supreme. On the other hand, angels and men are amazed when they see us walk through the dark trials still trusting in Jesus, 1 Corinthians 4:9.

As Job came to his major test in life, and people longed for him to just give up his faith and die, he looked up to God and said, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:” This in not an ordinary man, but one who understood the deep things of God. That when in the face of death and no way out of his test, he could look to God and say don’t worry about a thing, because every little thing it’s gonna be alright. I don’t know what you're going through today, but like job you can say, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: Job 13:15".
