Text for the day: Genesis 3:19 (K ing James V ersion)
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Our Theme for the day: Questions
Our Devotional
It doesn’t matter where you go on the earth, when you hear of sin and its first beginning on earth, you may ask the question, what if there had been no sin on earth? M any people do not think about this, but these thoughts continued to plague the mind of Adam and his wife after their fall from grace and the Garden of Eden. We all have questions of which we need answered. B ut sometimes we may have to live with the consequences of our choices. No one can make you, or break you in life, but you. Adam came to understand this, but to late. The poison of sin had already started to work in his mind, and we see him now hiding in the trees from God. (Genesis 3:7-8) Things had changed for M r. and M rs. Adam.
Greeting God in the cool of the day was no longer a treat but fear now griped them. Life had now become empty and inconsequential. With fig leaves sewed together to make clothing, they are seen in an artificial covering. One of the curses of Adam was not just a fight by faith for his salvation. (Genesis 3:15) B ut a work of toil to achieve physical success and substance was given by God to serve as a blessing in disguise. When a person works they are far less likely to sin than when they spend their days in idleness. If you would like to be happy this year, than you are going to have to sweat for it. Toil and labor develop character and teach humility and cooperation for the good of others with God.
So what happens to the body when you sweat? We all carry the residue of modern living deep within our bodies. We get mercury from fish, pesticides from apples and polyvinyl chlorides from that "new-car smell. Worries about toxins have spawned an industry of pills, tonics, diets -- and even absorbent foot pads. Sweating carries toxins out of the body and pushes [them] out of the pores. ... If you don't drink enough water to compensate for a good sweat, dehydration could stress the body. The B ible say’s by the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.
A new year is a new opportunity to regain the desire to reach your goals. B ut remember it is not only a matter of good sweat, but manpower with good will which is needed if you’re going to develop a good character and humility. It is a matter of knowing that God is on your side, which is the almighty and will do all in His power to keep you in righteousness and truth. Finally, “Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice and may God be with you. You should continue to be the people’s representative before God, bringing their disputes to him. Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct their lives.” (Exodus 18:19-20 (New Living Translation) At the beginning of this New Year.
