OFF TO A GOOD START

This is the 110th letter:

Text for the day: 1 John 2:7
Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

Our Theme for the day: OFF TO A GOOD START

Our Devotional

The year has started, and already most people you talk to are off to a good start. Some have even made New Year resolutions; others are not so particular about anything, life they say just keeps going on. But does it? Dave Johnson under the heat of the economical down turn made this statement under the heading of Manufacture or Borrow (Until We Can't). “When things are going wrong it is often good practice to go back and review the basics, and start again. In baseball you go back to batting and fielding practice. To master a musical instrument you practice your scales every day. Things have gone wrong with our economy. So let's go back to some basics and see if we can figure out where we went wrong.

Let's start with the most basic of basics in an economy: wealth comes from making things that you can trade with others. It is a simple concept worth repeating: if you make something you can trade it for things other people make. As you make things and trade them you build wealth. In an economy making and trading things creates good jobs and brings to the people income and goods they need.” Like the economies, this basic principle if followed in our lives at the beginning of the year is sure to bring about great success in what ever you’re pursuing this year. You can make a difference in someone’s life this year, by going back to basics. This calls for us to work with one person at a time. You can make a difference in your neighborhood, by just one neighbor at a time.

You can make a difference on your jobs or place of ministry this year, by helping fellow colleagues in the work place one colleague at a time. You can make a difference in the work of the government to the people, by looking for ways to help leaders be more effective in their ministries, one leader at a time. Getting off to a good start is a call to make some sacrifices, but you can do it one step at a time.  The call back to basics is also a call to help make a difference to the outlook, and success of others. But this can be done only by growing more like Jesus. Will this be the year that people say they are glad you showed up, or they are glad you are here? Will the place you are called to minister be glad you served them? Will you make God first, middle, and last in your life? Will you make Him best?

To those that do these things, they will be the happiest and most successful person in the Lord this year. It is said, “If you want something with enough desire to go out and fight for it, then you must work day and night to reach it. Good things in life do not come easy; you must sacrifice your time, and dream. To those who make time to improve upon their talents and love for others this year, they will fulfill their dreams. If the only desire that ignites you is fame, money, and the pleasures of this world, than you need to know that they are transitory and vain. These things are of little value when compared with those of a heavenly worth. May you be off to a good start this New Year, one step at a time!
