This is the 64rd letter:
Text for the day: Romans 8:9 (King James Version)
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any men have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Our Theme for the day: “No Excuse”
Today we look at a subject that gets little talk these days, the sin in leadership. When you hear this subject talked about by most people in a pulpit, radio, TV, or even on the street, there is much light heartedness about it. But this should be no laughing matter. Today many have left the church and others dare to enter because of the light attitude by many on this subject. Now we should never think that God singles out leaders in sin and over looks the parishioner, or the community. All who fall in sin the Bible calls a transgressor of the law, and is in need of a Saviour. According to Roman 5:12-19, it was because of sin that Jesus came to this earth to live, die, and now intercedes in Heaven for all mankind. That all may pass from death to life. There is no excuse for sin, for if it was there would be no sin, and the mere fact that there is no excuse is why Jesus came to be our pardon for sin. If we are to overcome sin then every impulse of our nature, every faculty of our mind needs to be under the controlling power of the spirit of God. If it where stopped there or if that is all God was calling us to, than He could say amen. But it is not, today God is also saying, every inclination of your heart needs to be surrendered moment by moment, and brought under the control of the Holy Spirit.
Today it’s time for all to open their eyes and see that, “there is not a blessing which God bestows upon man, nor a trial which he permits to befall him, but Satan both can and will seize upon it to tempt, to harass, and destroy the soul, if we give him the least advantage. Therefore however great one's spiritual light, however much he may enjoy of the divine favor and blessing, he should ever walk humbly before the Lord, pleading in faith that God will direct every thought and control every impulse. {MYP 62.1} The bottom line here is, there is no excuse for sin. If you are called by God to be a leader in the church, school, government, or in the common walks of life you are under the most sacred obligation if you be in Christ to guard the spirit, and to exercise self- control under the greatest provocation. The responsibility placed upon David as King was very great; yet this was not allowed to excuse his sin. The prophet said thou art the man; David was guilty of committing adultery with Uriah the Hittite’s wife, then killing him with the sword, and finally taking her to wife. 2 Samuel 11:1-27, 12:1-13
God has made ample provision for His people; and if they rely upon His strength, they will never become the sport of circumstances. The strongest temptation cannot excuse sin. However great the pressure brought to bear upon the soul, transgression is our own act. It is not in the power of earth or hell to compel any one to do evil. Satan attacks us at our weak points, but we need not be overcome. However severe or unexpected the assault, God has provided help for us, and in His strength we may be more than conquers through Christ Jesus. Finally, Paul in his letter to the Romans expresses confidence in them for their unwavering faith and their spiritual mindedness. As a servant Leader may you be directed and influenced by the Holy Spirit today. May the old life in the flesh forever stop and the new life in the spirit be kept both now, and forever more amen. Like David who repented of his sin and found pardon in God’s word, you can find the same. Why not pray his prayer today as found in Psalm 51?
