Garden Ministry’s purpose is to encourage the workers in the field of the Lord, and to keep them looking up to Jesus.
This is the 58th letter:
Text for the day: Psalm 69:12 (King James Version)
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. Our Theme for the day: the evil eye of Gossip
(Wisdom is found in strange places)
Mrs. Jones came home one day and found her grand-son sitting around with some of his friends. As she went into the kitchen she could not help but hear one of her grand-sons’ friends talk down on a teacher. As she quickly turned around to them she said, its time for all of you to get out of this house and stop talking about people and go and make someone happy today. Mrs. Jones went on to ask those youth that day what do you think leads someone to become a talebearer or gossiper? Then she said; have you heard the old saying misery loves company. To many of you reading this devotional I wonder if you know what these three words mean, misery loves company.
It means if you're miserable you'll take comfort, if not pleasure, in knowing other people are miserable. But to get out there and make someone happy today demands more than human strength. To many, servant leaders, and people in general they are not ready for that, because they must be number one. In other words all that most people are worried about is me, myself, and I. As we look back at God’s plan for the human race we see that through faith in God's love and overruling providence, it lightens the burdens of anxiety and care. Faith in God's love fills the heart with joy and brings contentment in the highest or the lowliest lot in life.
As we look back to the days of Enoch in (Genesis 5:21-24), it is clear to see that his religion directly promoted health, length of life, and heighten his enjoyment of all his blessings. Like it was in the days of James, today true faith in God’s love will open to the soul a never-failing fountain of happiness. James had this testimony “For as the body without the spirit is dead so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26) Man is doing the greatest injury and injustice to his own soul when he thinks and acts contrary to the will of God. No real joy can be found in the path forbidden by Him who knows what is best, and who plans for the good of His creatures. The path of transgression leads to destruction; but wisdom's "ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace." Proverbs 3:17.
To those who are given to gossip know that you are playing right into Satan’s hands; for this is where he finds employment. He stands by to excite the mind and make the most of the advantage he has gained. He knows that all this gossip and talebearing and revealing of secrets and dissecting of character separates the soul from God. Finally Satan knows that it will bring death to your spirituality and a calm Christ like influence. The soul that is constantly looking unto Jesus will see His self-denying love and deep humility, and will long to copy his example.
