Our Devotional
We are standing, as it were, upon the borders of the eternal world; and if there ever was a time when all should strive most earnestly to live a holy life, it is now. Secondly, if ever there was a time when we should seek for the spirit of Self-C ontrol it is also now. In the days of Noah it is said that mankind had lost all respect for God and one another. They lived in a world where the normal thing to see was no order or control. Their minds where filled with sensual, or carnal pleasures every moment. “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5 B ecause they were unwilling to abandon their lifestyle, “every inclination of the thoughts of their mind was evil all the time.” B ut to Noah, Satan found nothing in his mind to assail him. As a leader Noah purposed in his heart to be faithful and true to his maker. The apostle Paul reminds us: "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus C hrist." 1 Thessalonians 5:23
What an objectionable traits of character we are called to. This high calling is not inspired by men but by God. The bible says Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:8
The word grace, is what we call favor. In this word mercy is seen in the midst of wrath. B y it God pledged the preservation and restoration of humanity. The word “grace” occurs here for the first time in Scripture, and clearly has the same meaning as in the New Testament reference, where the merciful, unmerited favor of God exercised toward undeserving sinners is described. Noah is seen as an example of grace and mercy, a source of assurance and hope for believers who live at the end of time, a time that C hrist Himself compared to Noah’s age. M atthew 24:37-39
How many overlook the ingredients it takes to reach this high attainment. Noah had faith, trust, and submission in God; he was also an upright, honest, and vitreous man. It is noteworthy that he is not merely called “just,” but a “just man.” To live an exemplary life in the days of Noah required a stand of fearlessness, steadfastness, and Self-C ontrol against evil inducement, subtle temptations, and vile mockery. The Greek word for self-control is "enkrateia," from the word ... He must exhibit self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation this is what Noah possessed. Like it was in the days of Noah so it is now. As God called Noah for a special work, He is calling you. Noah was not a weakling, void of judgment or will power; but he was a “man,” strong of conviction, and straight in his thinking and action. In our day, we see a class of people who have come up without self-control; they have not bridled the temper or the tongue; and some of them claimed to be C hrist's followers, but they are not. They are not looking to Jesus as their example.
If they had the meekness and lowliness of the Saviour in their hearts, they will not act out the promptings of the natural heart, for this is of Satan. On the other hand most people are living in nervousness and fear; they have lost faith in God, and posses no self-control in word and spirit, which has led to a spirit of intoxication of wrath. When a person is not willing to be controlled by the spirit of God, they become unreasonable, and not easily persuaded or convinced. This leads to a sense of insanity, where Satan for the time has full control. Every one of these exhibitions of wrath weakens the nervous system and the moral powers, and makes it difficult to restrain anger. With this class there is only one remedy, surrender to Jesus C hrist, who gives you power to have self-control under all circumstances. Finally, every follower of C hrist needs to know that Satan is seeking to assail them in their weak points again and again, and they will be continually troubled so long as they think so much of self. Today God is calling you to bring your unsanctified and unsubdued selfish nature to him.
