Text for the day: 1
“I have heard your prayer.”
Our Theme for the day: Angels watching over me (Part 3)
Our Devotional
W. A. Spicer tells the story in his book “Providential Deliverance” of a man descending a very dangerous mountain trail to reach families in a valley with the good news of the gospel. At one steep and dangerous place, this man stopped to pray, asking God to send an angel to go with him. He safely reached the valley. The account reads: “At the first cottage he met a man and his wife, who, it seems, had been watching him as he came over the mountain. “What has become of your companion?” was their first question, after the ordinary greeting. “What companion?” “Asked the humble traveler.” “The man, that was with you.” “B ut there was no one with me; I am alone.” “Is that possible?” they exclaimed in surprise. “We were watching you as you came, and it really seemed to us that there were two men coming down the mountain together.
“Then,” “he remembered his prayer to God for help.” In the days of Hezekiah K ing of Judah , there came against him and his people the K ing of Assyria with an enormous army. The next step in the K ing of Judah’s life is the most important step of his life. The record reads, “Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD. And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD: "O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.” "It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by men's hands.
Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God." 2 K ings 19:14-19 Today there may be some-one who is being attacked by a modern day Sennacherib and their enormous army. It may seem like you are about to fall of the dangerous mountain trail of life. Hold on. God’s advice to you is to take the first step of which K ing Hezekiah took. The B ible says he want to church and put all things before God in prayer. While in an attitude of prayer, “note,” an answer came. “Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria .” 2 K ings 19:20 Servant leaders it is no time to stop praying, we must pray continually or without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Put your request before God, He will answer your prayer. "Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria :" 'He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it. B y the way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city, declares the LORD. I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.' “That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies! I K ings 19:32-35
Today God is waiting to put to flight your modern day Sennacherib and their enormous army. It may seem like you are about to fall of the dangerous mountain trail of life. B ut like the humble traveler with the good news of the gospel, stop and pray.
Angels find their joy in service and praise to their maker. An angel brought a message of hope and protection to Daniel and to many of the other patriarchs and prophets in their time of danger, because they stopped and prayed. An angel open the tomb of Jesus on that resurrection morning, because it was an answer to prayer. Angels promised the return of Jesus after the ascension through faith and prayer. Finally, angels shell be dispatch from heaven to gather the chosen sons and daughters of Adam to that great banquet table when Jesus comes back the second time, as a fulfillment of God’s eternal prayer. We all have a guardian angel that goes with us through life and keeps a record of every word and deed. Ecclesiastes 5:6. It is good to know that our angels are in constant contact with God! Like the traveler and K ing Hezekiah how many times we have been saved, protected, blessed, strengthened, and encouraged, we shall know only in the kingdom made new. Today let the angels of God help you in your day to day life, and get ready to meet Jesus in peace.
