Our Theme for the day:   Who is wise? (Part 4)

Our Devotional

Our scripture text today helps us see what the whole human race must face at their weakest point. To give into your feelings is ever present as Satan seeks to entrap those that are not fortifying their mind with Bible truth. “Many look on this conflict between Christ and Satan as having no special bearing on their own life; and for them it has little interest. But within the domain of every human heart this controversy is repeated. Never does one leave the ranks of evil for the service of God without encountering the assaults of Satan. The enticements which Christ resisted were those that we find it so difficult to withstand. They were urged upon Him in as much greater degree as His character is superior to ours. With the terrible weight of the sins of the world upon Him, Christ withstood the test upon appetite, upon the love of the world, and upon that love of display which leads to presumption. These were the temptations that overcame Adam and Eve, and that so readily overcome us.” {DA 116.4} Like in the days of Christ, the sons and daughters of God must not take it for granted that they can go and listen to a great preacher of the word. They must study the Word of God for themselves. How many are surprised after they have committed some sin because of their failure to study the Scriptures for themselves?

Paul’s words to Timothy are still applicable to us in these times. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (King James Version) Today, what most people fail to see is that this council was not given to Timothy only, but to us upon whom the ends of the earth have come. But instead of taken the advice of God through His servant Paul, they are giving no mind to the council. Just look around and see how so many people and sad to say even servant leaders in the church and the nations around the world that are living off guard. Satan finds them an easy prey, to lead into temptation, and become instruments in his hands to lead others astray also. The psalmist declares, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." Also in Paul's letter to Timothy we read, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."   On that day after Jesus had fasted forty days and nights, Satan saw that he must either conquer or be conquered.

Satan well knew the position that Christ had held in heaven as the Beloved of the Father. That the Son of God should come to this earth as a man filled him with amazement and with apprehension. He could not fathom the mystery of this great sacrifice. His selfish soul could not understand such love for the deceived race. The issues at hand involved too much to be entrusted to one of his angels. He answering the call must personally put an end to Christ and conduct the warfare himself. Christ was on the top of the agenda and made the mark of every weapon of hell. Just like Christ was made the mark of every weapon of hell, and did not give in to Satan temptations. In parallel, every servant leader has been marked by Satan with every weapon of hell. The only thing that we can rely on in our world today is the word of God. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt. 6:33. Even in this life it is not for our good to depart from the will of our Father in heaven. When we learn the power of His word, we shall not follow the suggestions of Satan in order to look good in men’s eyes. Have our pocket full with money, and look to be the most powerful man on the earth, country, family, or church.

When we learn the power of His word, we shall not follow the suggestions of Satan in order to obtain the best foods to say that we are somebody. When we learn the power of His word, we shall not follow the suggestions of Satan in order to save our lives at the expense of another. Our only questions will be what is God's command? “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) Finally, the life of God, that gives life to the world, is in His word.

Of all the lessons to be learned from our Lord's first great temptation none is more important than this, that all need to ask God to control their appetites and passions. In all ages, temptations appealing to the physical nature have been most effectual in corrupting and degrading mankind. Through intemperance, Satan works to destroy the mental and moral powers that God in man. This makes it impossible for mankind to appreciate things of eternal worth. We need Jesus to help us to overcome our fallen nature. Remember follow servant leaders, every promise in God's word is yours. When assailed by temptation, look not to circumstances or to the weakness of self, but to the power of the word. All its strength is yours. "Thy word," says the psalmist, "have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee." "By the word of Thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer." Ps. 119:11; 17:4.

Today the world is not in need of talent, oratorical control, or managers, but those who would preach the word! “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:1-2

It was by His word that Jesus healed disease and cast out demons. And by His word He stilled the sea and raised the dead; and the people bore witness that His word was with power. It is also our only source of power as servant leaders. As our physical life is sustained by food, so our spiritual life most be sustained by the Word of God. Today let every one receive the life given power from God's Word for himself. As we must eat for ourselves in order to receive nourishment, so we must receive the Word of God for ourselves. Yes, the Word of God is the bread of life. Those who receive and assimilate it, will make it a part of their every action, every attribute of character, and will grow strong in the strength of the Lord. The word of God gives immortal vigor to the soul, perfecting the experience of the obedient and bringing joys which will abide forever. This is the end of our series of, “Who is wise” now will you be wise?
