Text for the day: Proverbs 9:9
Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.
Our Theme for the day: Who is wise? (Part 2)
Our Devotional
In Proverbs chapter 9 God gives a call to the simple to seek wisdom, to eat of her bread, drink of her drink and live. In verse 7 we see that when a person is known to hold religion in derision, any attempt to correct him or her is likely to be met with abuse and even shame by on lookers. On the other hand, as the sinner makes fun of the corrector their heart grows harder, and colder than ever, until they cannot be reached by the Holy Spirit. M atthew 7:6 in the (21st C entury K ing James V ersion). “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” In other words, “Don’t try to tell people about spiritual things if they don’t want to listen, or they may turn against you. (The C lear Word for K ids by Jack J.B lanco)
Though there is danger that the scornful person will be hardened into greater sin by an ill-advised rebuke, the wise realizes the value of knowing how others regard him, and is glad of their council even when it takes the form of reproof. “Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.” (Psalm 141:5) Hence sound advice to the wise brings a double reward: It helps the recipient and wins for the counselor the friendship of the one whom he has reproved. In these evil days, the call to be a servant leadership is not an easy one, but rewarding. In order to do successful work for the Lord, we must be willing to do and to suffer cheerfully for His sake. Selfishness is death. No organ of the body could live, should it confine its service to itself. The heart, failing to send its life-blood to the hand and the head, would quickly lose its power. We are members one of another and the soul that refuses to impart will perish.
As the year is coming to a close, remember to you who are having success in ministry and or service to others, don’t forget to reach back and help your weak colleagues. It doesn’t matter where you are called to serve and help each other. C hrist came to this earth "as He that serveth." The angels are "ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation. “The same law of service is written upon all things in nature. The birds of the air, the beasts of the field, the trees of the forest, the leaves, the grass, and the flowers, the sun in the heavens, and the stars of light,--all have their ministry. Lake and ocean, river and water-spring,--each takes to give. Today is a day of rejoicing, which you should rejoice in your own work and be happy; for this, is your portion: for who shall bring you back from the dead to see what shall be after you? (Ecclesiastes 3:22) Remember, to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Let’s make good proof of our time today.
