Text for the day: 1 Timothy 2:8
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Our Theme for the day: “The true Watchers and Prayers” (Part 7)
“Pray everywhere”
Our Devotional
Have you ever notice how things can easily change when you pray? I have been in the rooms of sick people when all hope of a recovery is out of the question, but when prayer is offered health springs back in the room. I have been in court rooms where those who are standing before the court for wrong have been given another chance because prayer was offered. I have seen families ready to give up on life, but because prayer was offered they are still together. We as servant leaders are encouraged by God to pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)…….. But how many of you do that? In our text today, Paul admonishes us to pray everywhere, but how many pray every where?
In his words to Timothy to don’t stop praying and giving thanks he makes a beautiful point when he said, “I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” To pray always means always.
A few months ago the church of which I have been called to serve Gods people from, was having a meeting for four weeks. During the meeting a few of us where called to work with the inmates of two of our prisons. Let me say, in Bermuda we have some of the finest officers in the world who take pride in their work. These officers also provide insightful service to those who are in subjection to their authority, and command. One Sunday as I was making my way to over-see the meetings, I needed to make one stop to help some one.
Before I took off from my home I prayed for the Lord to keep me from harm and others on the street as well. But as I was nearing my first stop, going up a hill, the engine of my car blow up. What a sight to see me in a car that could not go any more. But the miracle of it all was that nothing happened to me. The car was full of equipment, and nothing happened to that either. God had answered my prayer. With prayer on my lips I called my sister who came for me to take me to the first stop, and she left. When we needed to go to the prison God sent a taxi, and He provided for our every need during that month with out a car as He said He would. We were able to get another car a month later of which we are still paying on, and will be until it’s all paid.
But God was true to His word, that if you are faithful no evil shall befall you. (Psalm 91:10) No matter how small or insignificant the problem or need, ask God to guide the affairs of your life. Just invite him in. “Our heavenly Father waits to bestow upon us the fullness of His blessing." "It is our privilege to drink largely at the fountain of boundless love. What a wonder it is that we pray so little! God is ready and willing to hear the sincere prayer of the humblest of His children, and yet there is much manifest reluctance on our part to make known our wants to God. What can the angels of heaven think of poor helpless human beings, who are subject to temptation, when God's heart of infinite love yearns toward them, ready to give them more than they can ask or think, and yet they pray so little and have so little faith?
The angels love to bow before God; they love to be near Him. They regard communion with God as their highest joy; and yet the children of earth, who need so much the help that God only can give, seem satisfied to walk without the light of His Spirit, the companionship of His presence.”{SC 94.1} I used to hear the old timers say; with God you can’t go wrong. Well I can add to that by saying, with out God in your plans you would not just end up wrong, but you would not know where you will end up. God knows the future, why not put your plans in His hands?
