“In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should understand the third commandment, because it deepens your spiritual growth.”
This is the 274th letter:
Text for the day: Exodus 20:7 (King James Version)
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Our Theme for the day: “THE BLUEPRINT” Part 6 (What is Vain Worship)
When I was a young boy, our parents, and teachers, taught us to never take the name of the Lord in vain. One day while playing with the children, one of my friends got angry and said, “Lord”! All the children that were playing stopped playing and said to him, “You have just taken the name of the Lord in vain.” As I grow older, I now realize that taking the name of the Lord in vain meant much more than that. In fact, if a person speaks silly, vulgar, or profane, it is taking the Lords' name in vain. The word “profane” is composed of two Latin words, pro, meaning “in front of,” and fane, meaning “the temple.” It indicates irreverence for holy things. If a poll was taken, we would all be surprised to know just how many people in our country, fall short of the third commandment, "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy GOD in vain."
Looking back on that experience of years ago, it is clear in my mind that my friend did not use profanity, but they did use a careless word that violated the spirit of the Lordship of God. How many of you take time when speaking to avoid, or take special care with your words that you do not violate the third commandment? The Apostle Paul in writing to the Christian believers in Corinth reminded them that their body is the temple of God, and that no wicked thought or deed should come from it, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. The command not to take Gods' name in vain, is a command to “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for God is a consuming fire,” Hebrews 12:28-29. We fume and argue with one another about reverence, and the way we should approach God, but did not Jesus teach his disciples how to pray, “Hallowed be Thy name.” Matthew 6:7-13?
Reverence to God was one of the key points of Jesus messages to the people. The careless use of Gods' name as Christians should alarm us, because this shows a lack of reverence for Him. To further explain this point, is to say that if you falsely live for Jesus, you are taking the name of the Lord in vain. You are a hypocrite! Yet there is another class of people who say like Pharaoh, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice,” Exodus 5:1-2.
“Holy and Reverend is His name,” Psalms 111:9. The character of God is so great that in the Bible, there are approximately 250 names, titles, and emblems used to describe Him. On another matter, there are many churches around the world who call their clergy reverend. Let me say there is nothing wrong with showing honor to your pastor, and respecting the anointing of the lord on them. But we are to call no men reverend. This is a misunderstanding of the scripture and the call of those in spiritual leadership over the church.
Lastly, the question is asked by our readers, is it honorable to stand before a court room and give a judicial oath, which is a confirmation of the truthfulness of your testimony? The answer is yes it is honorable. This is your God given right, and it should not be taken lightly. Isaiah 45:23 / Hebrews 6:13 / Revelation 10:5-7
This subject on taking the Lords name in vain can go on to a part two, but we must stop here. Remember as you open and read Gods word today, it should be done with reverence. To those who stand as Gods spokesperson to His people, God will hold you responsible for your irreverent behavior and jesturings. To you who go to church, God will not hold you guiltless for your whispering, laughing, eating, and all forms of frivolous behavior during your worship of Him, it is disrespectful. Worshipers, who do not show respect for God, and His place of worship, offer the sacrifice of fools instead of saints, and vain worship is the result of a vain life, Ecclesiastes 5:1-2.

Ø In China today there is an ongoing crackdown against house churches. House church pastor Shi Enhao was sentenced to two years in a labor camp last month (June) 2011. Pastor Shi, who serves as deputy chairman of the Chinese House Church Alliance, was charged with “illegal meetings and illegal organizing of venues for religious meetings.” The charges stem from the fact that Pastor Shi’s house church of several thousand meets in different sites around Suqian city. Let us pray that God will give wisdom to the leaders of the country to set him free.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28
