“There can be no Sabbath institution unless some day is observed as a Sabbath. This is self-evident. Since God is the author of the institution, he must have appointed some day for its celebration.” By Geo. I. Butler
This is the 275th letter:
Text for the day: Exodus 20:8-11 (King James Version)
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Our Theme for the day: “THE BLUEPRINT” Part 7 (Sabbath Rest)
When I grew up in my country many years ago, it was a command thing to see people speaking to one another and asking question on everything under the sun. We did not have a phone in those days, but those homes that did, became the neighbourhood telephone center. Boys were Boys, and girls were girls in those days, but you would be careful how you asked an adult a question. In those days, a young person watched their mouth, and always looked to help and not harm someone.
One day, the question of religion and worship came up, but no one that I knew had the answer, so we asked the parish priest. “Let me pause by saying, my family, worshiped God on every Sunday. My uncle was a pastor in the Pentecostal church, and my great- great- uncle was a lay-reader for the AME church. We went to the Pentecostal church, and Salvation Army church. Yes sometimes, two churches every Sunday. We loved are churches and the people who worship there. To me and others, these Christians where true children of God. Today when I see many of them, they have not changed their stand with the Lord, and I still see Jesus in them.”
My friend Larry seemed like he had more questions then answers, so he asked the parish priest the question, “Which day was the right day to worship God on?” To our surprise the priest in our parish which is Warwick, looked in Larry’s face and told him, “Saturday”. Larry quickly responded with another question, “If Saturday is the right day of worship, why do you worship on Sundays?” The priest answered by saying, “I work on Sunday’s, the Bible says that it is the first day of the week,” and then he started to give those who where there a Bible study on the Sabbath.
“The true Church of God has always kept God’s Sabbath—Saturday. Just as Jews know the correct day, so also do true Christians. Most theologians and religionists have long admitted that the true Sabbath of the Bible is the seventh day. However, they will not obey it. Saturday, not Sunday, is the seventh day of the week. Even a good dictionary explains this. Most Christians have no idea how extremely significant the fourth Commandment is to God and yet we find that Satan from the very beginning has been working towards his own day of worship with his intention to have it replace God’s true day of worship. If Christians could only grasp that the fourth Commandment is just as much apart of the Moral law as the other nine.
God told ancient Israel, “Moreover also I gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctifies them” Ezekiel 20:12. One of the single greatest keys that identify the true Church, the one founded by Jesus Christ, is the sign of God’s true Sabbath.
Many realize that God created, rested on, blessed and hallowed the seventh day! Which is Saturday, and the weekly cycle has not been lost. Remember young men and never let this go said the priest, “God blesses those that keep all of His commandments. It is better to keep all Gods commandments and not just one, Psalms 119:142.Do not let anyone deceive you by saying a Christian should obey some of the commandments and not all. If a person tells you not to obey God, then they are obeying men and that is a very crude deception.” Archdeacon Thomas Dyson of the Anglican Church
Many years have passed now and that wonderful priest, who loved all God’s children in our parish, has passed away. But before he died he had a desire to leave his duties as a priest and go back home and live in the mountains as a monk, of which he did. Sometimes in life we never know why people pass our way. But one thing is certain, this man of God wanted to do what was right even in answering the questions of the children in his parish. “May God help us all answer the people’s questions by the Bible, and not by what man say.”
Today there are frequent inquiries concerning this subject which is attracting more attention than any age. Prominent theologians and scholars like Nicodemus in John 3:1-21 are seeking for answers by night. Leading secular and religious papers, are asking for light on this most controversial commandment. Meanwhile, as the dos and don’ts are going accurse the flood, people are dying for a better knowledge of Jesus and God’s will for them. The Sabbath of the Decalogue has in the past been an issue, and it still is a living controversy to many. Sad to say it will be an issue in days to come.
Like the other nine commandments it will be challenge until Jesus comes. As the church of the living God moves forward we need to stop isolating ourselves from each other by our customs and religious beliefs, and build a household of faith where Jesus is seen in all we do. Let us break up the religious loneliness that is killing the testimony of our Lord and Saviour, “that they may be one.” Sometime it is terrible to bear, to see people walking around without a prepare knowledge of God. If we are going to remain brothers and sisters, we need to work with each other, and not against each other.
