Our Theme for the day:   WHO IS IT THAT JUDGETH?  (Part 1)

Our Devotional

In Hollywood, it's all about image, right? Then what about the beautiful, the bad and the worse? Now make room for the shiniest new Hollywood icon: Mr. and Mrs. Good. Isn’t it funny how we put people in classes? By the way who is to say that our perception of some-one is correct anyway? False perception or judging is a big problem in the world and even in the church. But you may say, not the church! Yes even in the church there is judging, but God’s word is, Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment" John 7:24. Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery" (2 Chronicles 19:7). Psalm 9:8 reminds us that God will judge the world in righteousness; and he will govern the peoples with justice, so who is it that judgeth?

As we look at this text, we see that there are two parts to it, a judgment by God and a governing by God in the spirit of righteousness. “The LORD takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people” Isaiah 3:13. But after the judgment is completed, He governs them in righteousness. Soon we shall give account to God for every idle word that we speak also, (Matthew 12:36). In 1886 Franklin Edson Belden in seeing the fullness of the judgment wrote a song called, The Judgment Has Set. The lyrics of the song is, “The judgment has set the books have been opened; how shall we stand in that great day? When every thought and word and action, God the righteous Judge shall weigh”? The refrain goes on to say, “How shall we stand in that great day? How shall we stand in that great day? Shall we be found before Him wanting? Or with our sins all washed away?

The song has two other parts which say, “The work is begun with those who are sleeping, Soon will the living here be tried. Out of the books of God’s remembrance His decision to abide. O, how shall we stand that moment of searching, when all our sins those books reveal? When from that court, each case decided, shall be granted no appeal? “How shall we stand in that great day? How shall we stand in that great day? Shall we be found before Him wanting? Or with our sins all washed away? Finally, God’s word to us today is examine yourselves whether you are in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5).
