Text for the day: Isaiah 58:1
Our Theme for the day: IS THERE A HOLE IN YOUR WALL? (Part 1)
Our Devotional
In the New International V ersion of the B ible Isaiah 58:1 reads, "Shout it aloud, and do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins. When you look at this command, it is clear that God’s words in this text are not for the wick world, but those whom the Lord designates as "my people," or church people. There is a class of people in our world that believe that church going people do not need reproving, or rebuking for their transgressions. On the other hand there are some people who believe most preachers preach powerful messages, but they have no love or long suffering.
Yet there are some who believe that there are some preachers who love the flock, but have no message. God has not called them to the ministry, and He has not spoken to them for years with a message for His people. They are only going through the motions; there is no passion in their steps for the lost. The apostle Paul addressed all these concerns when he admonished all servant leaders to, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine” 2 Timothy 4:2. Like in the days of Isaiah the prophet, there comes a time when God speaks. "Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God." Isaiah 58:2.
Here is brought to view a class who think themselves righteous and appear to manifest great interest in the service of God; but the stern and solemn rebuke of the Searcher of hearts proves them to be trampling upon the divine precepts. Note the very law which they proclaimed, they broke. The prophet thus points out the ordinance which has been forsaken: "Thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on M y holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord" V erses 12-14.
This prophecy also applies in our time. The breach was made in the law of God when the Sabbath was changed by the Roman power. B ut the time has come for that divine institution to be restored. The breach is to be repaired and the foundation of many generations to be raised up.
