Garden Ministry

Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

In His Time

The humble, efficient worker, who obediently responds to the call of God, may be sure of receiving divine assistance. To feel so great and holy a responsibility is of itself elevating to the character. It calls into action the highest mental qualities, and their continued exercise strengthens and purifies mind and heart. The influence upon one's own life, as well as upon the lives of others, is incalculable. SW, July 5, 1898

This is the 189th letter:

Text for the day: (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Our Theme for the day: "IN HIS TIME"

Our Devotional

As I was reading today, I came across a quotation which said, "To wisdom belongs the intellectual apprehension of things eternal; to knowledge, the rational apprehension of things temporal." (ST, January 9, 1893 par. 3) The question I'll love to ask you today is how much time do you put into eternal things, verses the temporal things of life?

To answer this question properly, just ask yourself this question? Each day, what do I spend most of my time doing? Or better still to those who spend a great deal of their time thinking or planning their next move in life. What are you always thinking about? Isn't it so funny how we can spend so much time chasing the rabbit as it where, and at the end of the day have nothing to show for it. This is the prefect example of those who have made the things of this word their God.

The Bible encourages us to not let the things of this world, or temporal things engross our whole attention, or minds until our thoughts are entirely of the earth and earthly. Today God is calling His people to train, discipline, and educate their minds that they may think in a heavenly channel. We have the privilege of dwelling on things unseen and eternal. If you fine joy in letting your mind just wonder on temporal things, call on God today and He'll help you overcome and discern by spiritual vision the thing of eternal worth. It is by seeing Jesus, that we may obtain strength of mind and vigor of spirit during these uncertain days. The order of the day is not more this, or more of that! But trust in the Lord. If we can only trust God more, all our temporal concern will all be forgotten in His eternal glory!

In closing the song writer was right when he wrote,

"IN HIS TIME, IN HIS TIME
HE MAKES ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL IN HIS TIME
LORD, PLEASE SHOW ME EVERYDAY
AS YOU'RE TEACHING ME YOU'RE WAY
AND I'LL DO JUST WHAT YOU SAY, IN YOUR TIME.

IN YOUR TIME, IN YOUR TIME
YOU MAKE ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL IN YOUR TIME
LORD, MY LIFE TO YOU I BRING
MAY EACH SONG I HAVE TO SING
BE TO YOU A LOVELY THING
IN YOUR TIME BE TO YOU A LOVELY THING
IN YOUR TIME."

Are you going through a hard time? Does your road seem all uphill? Has your job said to you this is your pick slip and your last pay check? Are you behind in your rent, and the landlord has promised to put you out? Has the doctor called you in and said this is all we can do for you? Then remember Regina. The lady who did not ask for much, but when she lost her husband of four months to an aggressive form of cancer, she felt "frozen." But her faith and trust in God kept her going. She said, "My husband had a wonderful strong faith and with time, God helps us to accept anything. And "in His time"...I will see my husband again and our Savior that made it possible!"

Yes, the New Living Translation of the Bible says it well, "For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!"

Dr. Dodd quotes this scripture in Mr. Blackwall, sacred classics this way, "This is one of the most emphatic passages in all St. Paul's writings, in which he speaks as much like an orator as he does as an apostle. The lightness of the trial is expressed by the lightness of our affliction;" He goes on to say that this is not a true comparison. "On the other hand, the far more exceeding, is infinitely emphatical, and cannot be fully expressed by any translation. It signifies that all translations fall short of describing the far more weighty-eternal glory." So solid and lasting is this glory that God is doing His best to bring us to it's fullness in Christ. Yet when gained, the temporal is infinitely below the prize of the eternal. Take time to read Ecclesiastes chapter 3, as you go through today, and remember to move in His time.
