This is the 163rd letter:

Text for the day: 2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Our Theme for the day: “It’s Hot Potato time” (Part 1)

Our Devotional

Have you ever picked up a hot potato with your bare hands? How did your hand feel after? Did you put your hand in water, or did you just take the pain? Many years ago, my family was planning a day at the beach with all ten of my mother’s children, and of cause our friends. On the morning of the outing everyone had something to do. Mom was up early, because we had to have ginger bread, and no one made it like her. One of the older sisters had to make sure the younger children had their breakfast and then ready to go at the set time. In those day, one thing about the family every one worked together. To this day I could not tell who it was that put the potatoes on for the salad, but no one was to touch them while they where cooling. While we the younger children where waiting, I decided to look into the potato pot to see if they were cool enough.

The next thing my mother heard was a load noise coming from my mouth. While no one was looking I decided to pick up one of the potatoes with my hands. Oh the pain! My hand that day received an unnecessary mark with pain because I was not following instruction. This experience reminds me of those who do not listen to the instruction led out by the Lord in the Bible for our good.

Time does may change but Gods word remains the same. , but the word of God remains the same. Some think that in order to reach the mass’s we need to change the way we do things to fit “modern” times. This may be true with some things, but not with the revealed things of God. Man has no right to change these things. Preaching is one of those things that have changed over the years, but not always for the better. Public preaching and teaching today should be firstly Biblical, positive, direct and inspirational.

The preaching of the gospel should not be plain, theatrical, or go to the extreme, but Holy Spirit filled. Real preaching and teaching is also done in humility, reverence, kindness and in earnestness. The good news of the gospel brings unity to the home, church and community. It’s like a hot potato, when you pick it up, or allow God to apply it to your life, you can’t help but cry out load with a heavenly sound, “God is good, Hallelujah.” On one occasion as D L Moody was giving a message to a number of people he said, “Where there is union I do not believe any power, earthly or infernal, can stand before the work. When the church, the pulpit, and the pew get united, and God’s people are all of one mind, Christianity is like a red hot ball rolling over the earth, and all the hosts of death and hell cannot stand before it.” D L Moody “Prevailing Prayer,” Page 56

At a time to be different, in a race to be first in how things are done in ministry, remember, it’s not about us, but Jesus. To all my brothers, and sisters, don’t stop preaching Jesus from your please of calling. Don’t try to be so complex, that you need an interpreter to break down your message. Be simple, direct and positive, but never forget to instruct, reprove, rebuke, and exhort. Be urgent in your delivery in season, and out of season. Don’t forget that God has called you to preach the word in word and deed with all longsuffering, in love and gentleness. But firmness and truth should never be compromised. The world needs such bold and heroic preaching as will rebuke sin even in high places, and all who are guilty of public and private sins should be led open, like a hot potato. Finally, generalities are pointless in Gods economy which causes parishioners to live compromised lives. It is no time to be tame, and powerless, but like a hot potato which will cause all who touch it, to be marked and changed.

Prayer Request

From Bermuda

Today I ask for prayer for my daughter Kevina.

Over some years now she has been very sick.

But on Monday her face blew up to almost double.

After the Doctor looked at her at the hospital,

it was finally agreed that there is noting more they can

do for Kevina in Bermuda. On Wednesday at 11:30 am

we will have an anointing service for her.

Can you join us in prayer for her?
