Encouraging workers in the field of the Lord.

"Don't lose it"

This is the 157th letter:

Text for the day: Matthew 5:13-14

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

Our Theme for the day: “Don’t lose it”

Our Devotional

As I got up this morning, “I could not help but think about our nothingness in ministry without Jesus.” If we move or do anything without inviting Jesus to go with us, then we are not prepared to perform the duty laid upon us by the Lord. "Without me," says Christ, "ye can do nothing," The misappropriate words that fall from our lips, the trifling words spoken to create a laugh, are all condemned by the word of God, and are entirely out of place in the life of the child of God, and those who come to speak also at the sacred desk. Unless we are converted, our influence will lead to death and not life. Let me say, “We are all in need of coming up to a higher level in our walk with the Lord, and our fellow men.” Today our nations around the world are in trouble, they are sickly and ready to die. Some would point their fingers at the leaders of these countries, but this is only partly true.

The greatest downfall of our nation is the home, all would agree, but the church must take its place as part of the downfall of the nations around the world also. What is the cause of this lack of interest and the downfall by the churches? One may argue this point until Jesus comes. The greatest cause of this lack of interest and the downfall is a hiding of their light, and no salt to preserve our community. In our text today, Jesus is seen speaking to the multitudes, the writer Matthew makes it clear that this sermon by Jesus was not in the valley, but the mountain. This message was delivered about midway of the three and a half years of Jesus ministry. This put it in the late summer of the year A.D. 29. “You are the salt of the earth” said Jesus, “but if the salt has lost its taste (its strength, its quality), how can its saltiness be restored?

It is not good for anything any longer but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a clay pot, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Today God is longing to make a difference in our nation, our communities, and our homes. He will do it if we allow Him to work through us, the church. God's power alone can, working through His people, (His church) change the human heart and imbue it with the love for Christ and their community. God's power alone can correct and subdue the passions and sanctify the affections. All who minister in whatever field you are called to serve, must humble your proud hearts, submit your will to the will of God, and hide your life with Christ in God. This is the day to, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
