"Reach them, and then teach them"

This is the 155th letter:

Text for the day: Proverbs 8:17

I love them that love me, and those that seek me early

shall find me."

Our Theme for the day: “Reach them, and then teach them”

Our Devotional

Did you not know that good religion and the study of the Bible can helps children study well in school? In fact, children who spend time in reading the Bible daily become more faithful to their communities and bring no shame to their families? Let me share with you today a part of my life from my younger years. When I was about thirteen years old, I did not like school. Up until that time, no matter what my teachers, with my mother, and god-mother did, or said to me, I just did not like school and never made the honor roll. But when I turned fourteen, something happen. Back then my school started a reading program. The aim of the program was to get the children to read more, that by reading they would improve in their classes. This sounded good, but I had other problems of which all of my great teachers worked with me on.

After trying a few of the books in the room to read, I finally became discourage and ask the teacher if I could bring a book form home to read. I will never forget what Mrs. Trott said to me as long as I live, “Yes”. For the first time in my life someone had come down to my level in school to help me. As I got home that day, I told my mother that I was going to take a book from home to read at school. Mom became excited, and asked me what the cause for a love to read was. Then I told her about the reading program and an opportunity to read something I love. As my mother looked at me that after-noon many years ago, she asked me “What book are you going to take with you to read tomorrow?” This was a big step, but I told her the Bible. Mom never said anything to discourage me but smiled. As I got to school the next day the bell rang and we were off to our first class which was reading.

As the students took out their book to read, I took out mine. To the end of the week, Mrs. Trott called me up to read to her from the book I chose to read. As I set and tried to read the book, she stopped me and said, “Do you think that book is too hard for you?” But I looked at her and said, “But I want to read it.” May God bless Mrs. Trott and all the teachers like her who understand when a child loves something in life. It would be far better to start from the most practical point in helping a child. That was not the last time I read to Mrs. Trott, but each time my level would increased. I did not like to study, but play. It was the Bible that helped me, and the very first chapter of the Bible I read was the book of Revelation. My dad and I would learn together at the feet of Jesus in those early days of my passion to read. Every morning, we would get up at around six and as he cooked the morning breakfast, we would sit together at the table in the kitchen while I read to him from the Bible.

We shouldn’t underestimate the influence of a good reading program. Neither should we underestimate the influence of the Bible to help our youth today. I was idle at school and often missed my lessons. Now I learn every lesson well, praise God. I was mischievous at school. When the teachers were not looking at me, I was making fun for the children to look at. After I started reading the Bible, I looked to please God by behaving well and keeping the school laws. I was selfish at home, didn't like to run errands, and was sulky when my mother called me from play to help her. Then it became a real joy to help my mother in any way and to show that I loved her. All this happen because someone took out time to come down to my level and help me. Finally, let me refer to the many precious promises on record for youth who seek their Saviour early. Ecclesiastes 12:1: "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them." Proverbs 8:17: "I love them that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me."

The Great Shepherd of Israel is still saying, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Teach your children that their youth is the best time to seek the Lord. I’m much older now, but I still read every day, and the Bible is still apart of my daily reading. Parents help your children to do well. To allow your child to follow his or her natural impulses is to allow them to deteriorate and to become proficient in evil. The results of wrong training will begin to be revealed in childhood. What we see in our world today in the line of out-of hand children and youth is a continual testimony to parental neglect by permitting their children to follow a course of their own choosing in evil. Such a downward course can be prevented only by surrendering our children to the Lord and surrounding them with good influences from the community and the Bible. This and only this will counteract evil. From infancy to youth and from youth to manhood, a child should be under the influence of those for good, only. May God help you; reach out your hand today to help somebody grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. That they may become good role models in our community, and faithful members of their families that bring no shame.

Our Theme for the day: STAND ON HIS

WORD (Part 7) “A daily Replenishment of the Word”

Our Devotional

Sydney Smith once said, “It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little - do what you can.” This principle could be applied to anything we do in life. Today we are looking at the last part in the series on “Stand on the Word,” with a special look at the importance of a daily replenishment of the word. Have you not notice that most people have a problem with remembering the last time they did sometime of any major significance in their life? To see if I’m right, let us look at the simplest object on earth, the Bible. When was the last time you read Genesis chapter one? Better still, when was the last time you looked at the replenishing text in the same chapter? You may be saying you don’t know, or I did not know there was ever a text in the Bible called the replenishing text.

Let us read it, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28. Normally when we read this text, we get excited about the fact that Adam and his wife, (Eve) were given the privilege to have children. But how many parents fully understand the responsibility that comes along with that privilege of parenting? It seems to me that in order for parents to understand their calling, they must seek God for wisdom. This opens the door to this most important fact. Although many people have children, and they become parents, not everyone who has children is called to be parents. In other words, some parents have made themselves parents with-out God’s approval because they could not restrain themselves from committing adultery or sex before marriage and now they are parents.

Others may have gotten married but they have not looked for help on becoming parents, they are like a fish outside the water. Still another class has gotten all the right ingredients to becoming a good parent, but they have not applied the information to their lives. They are like a fresh apple pie that was left out for weeks, they have become moldy. Then there is a fourth class, they are the parents of a well to do number of children who have great parents, but poor parenting skills. This class would rather call in the nanny or day care, to watch the child, but form no relationship with their children. In the creation of mankind God had a different plan for parenting and of married couples coming into the fullness of parenthood. Historically, the Bible tells us that God’s perfect plan was destroyed, yet God had an alternate plan.

Through this modify plan, Adam and Eve did have children but not in a sinless nature, but in a sinful nature. Romans 5:12. It is clear by all studies of the Bible that God's plan for mankind to live with out seeing death was interrupted, but praise God He had an alternate plan. In order for us to see this more clearly, let us look at the reproduction of the polar bear. It is said that in order for the polar bear to survive, it must reproduce. In human terms the life span of the polar bear is not very long. In the wild, polar bears live an average15 to 18 years, although biologists have tagged a few bears in their early 30s. In captivity, they may live until their mid- to late 30s. Debby, a zoo bear in Canada, lived to be 42. Scientists recognize 19 distinct populations of polar bears. Scientists also say that polar bears have one of the slowest reproductive rates of any mammal, typically producing only five litters in their lifetime.

If our spiritual survival was basted on that rate then only a few would be saved. But John the revelator said he saw a great multitude that stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with robes, and palms in their hands; that would be saved. Revelation 7:9. In order for Christian’s to survive they must also reproduce. Eve was the mother of all human beings on earth, because she reproduced herself, and her off springs reproduced themselves also. It is time for the real child of God to grow spiritually, if they want to survive. Secondly they must study the bible, and get into a reproducing program to enlarge the kingdom of God. Finally, stand on the word. If you do these things, happy are you in this world and the world to come.
