“There is truth in the statement “Heroes mirror a society.” Looking
at the past and reviewing the heroic records of a nation give us an idea of the
fabric of a culture, of the values esteemed by a civilization.” By Adventist Review.
"A national hero is a person who is admired and
acknowledged for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble
qualities."
A national hero is a person who goes beyond the call of
duty and makes significant positive contributions to the growth and development
of society.
A national hero is someone who shows no partiality and
represents all of us and not a few.
A national hero is a person with proven integrity. Who shows a
sense of courage to support positive action, points out negative actions, and
dares to fight for all with a full knowledge of their likely risks.
A national hero is a person who promotes the country’s
sovereignty, development, national pride, and unity among its inhabitants.
A national hero is a person who makes great sacrifices at the
expense of personal interests where necessary, even at times the sacrifice of
their health, and sometimes families.
A national hero is a person who has been given a vision of
great things and understands the truth that is needed to open doors to those
visions for the success of all.
A national hero has courage or bravery and is appreciated by
all people.
A national hero is a person that does not serve themselves,
but others as an example of righteousness, truth, and justice.
A national hero is a person who demonstrates good manners in
one’s behavior, relationships, and interaction with others.
A national hero is a person who has a humanitarian spirit and
looks out to help others first, instead of being materialistic.
Lastly, there are some unsung heroes who have graced our
earth. These people have done a great work, and no one has remembered them. It
is said, “There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a
great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now
there lived in that city a poor but wise man, and he saved the city by his
wisdom. But nobody remembered that poor man. So, I said, “Wisdom is better than
strength.” But nevertheless, the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words
are no longer heeded.” Ecclesiastes 9:15-16.
There are many heroes in the Bible for various reasons. Let us
take a moment daily to read about them. Because to know your heroes is to know
yourself: your values and your collective history, which makes you great.
Today, let us not forget our national heroes, but recognize and celebrate them
for their contributions to their society and its culture.
May GOD bless all national heroes of Bermuda for your
faithfulness.
