Affliction comes to us, not to make us sad but sober; not to
make us sorry but wise. By H. G. Wells
Text for the day: But though he caused grief, yet will he have
compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict
willingly nor grieve the children of men. Lamentations 3:32, 33.
Our Devotional
With all the running around we
did yesterday I did not get around to updating you on the progress of Kevina.
Her follow up went well with the doctors, but they are concern with the
swelling behind the eye. She is still in great pain at times when her eye is
closed because of the tumor that was in the muscle. Pray as the pathologist is
still working to present their finding to the doctors. Kevina has been very
understanding through all of her trails. What a beautiful person she is.
When you think that this is it,
sad to say there is more bad news. Today we got a call from our son Jonathan at Southern University in Chattanooga Tennessee that he has not been well for the last twenty four hours. He said
that he has a fever and spasm to his neck. We told him to go to the hospital as
it could be a number of things. Later on this evening Jonathan has gotten back from the
hospital and called saying, “He had an infection in his lepnods and they are swollen.”
With prayer a medicine, God has assured us that he will be well.
All Karon and I can say today, “the LORD gave, and the LORD hath
taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” Job 1:21
The late Spurgeon, Charles
speaking on this text once said, “I think these are the grandest words in the
whole record of human speech. Considering the circumstances of the man at the
time, that he should thus speak was, I think, a miracle of grace.”
Today we thank the Lord that He has called us
to drink of the same cup of sorrow, which has been mingled with joy and rest
and peace in Jesus. He doeth all things well. We have seen that our heavenly
Father doth not willingly afflict and grieve the children of men....
Remember all; this world is the
scene of trials, griefs, and sorrows. But we must bear the test of God. The
fire of the furnace is to kindle till our dross is consumed and we come forth
as gold purified in the furnace of affliction.... We know that light will come
out of this darkness as the power of God’s mercy is hovering over our head even
in this darkest hour. For we know that, “All things work together for good to
them that love God.” Romans 8:28
Oh, the triumphs of almighty
grace! May God grant us such patience, if he sends us such trials, and unto him
shall be the glory evermore! No matter what you’re going through today, we ask
you to stand fast in His strength; there is rest for you. Just call on the name of Jesus and see something happen!!!

Today is a great day to
praise the LORD for the things He is doing around the world through all types
of ministries. Although the work of spreading the gospel in different countries
is moving ahead by human hands, it is not advancing as it should. Yet, that
which has been accomplished affords reason for gratitude and grounds for
encouragement.
