“Covetousness feeds on selfishness, [but] it cannot exist where love rules and abounds.”
By T. G. Bunch
This is the 286th letter:
Text for the day: Exodus 20: 17
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
Our Theme for the day: “THE BLUEPRINT” Part 18 (I KNOW WHAT’S IN MY CUP)
Our Devotional
We have come to the last command of the Royal Law given by God to all who love Him, and long to eat of the tree of life, Revelation 22:14. You shall not covet is widely understood as moral imperatives by legal scholars, Jewish scholars, Catholic scholars, and Post-Reformation scholars. Unlike the other nine commandments which focus on outward actions, this command focuses on the inner heart, the motive that gives birth to our deeds.
It is an imperative against setting one’s desire on things that are forbidden. For instance, the seventh commandment forbids the act of adultery, but this commandment forbids the desire for adultery. The eighth commandment forbids the act of stealing, but covetousness forbids the desire for unjust acquisition of another man’s goods or person.
Simply put, covetousness implies a desire to possess an object by unjust or unlawful means. The Bible is not however implying that if we have a desire to obtain something lawful, it is sin, 1 Corinthians 12:31. On the contrary, it is only sinful when we desire something that is not legitimately attainable. Although this command can be committed without the knowledge of others, it is the most heart searching of all commands of the Royal Law.
The Hebrew word translated “covet” is “chamad” which can be translated into English as “covet”, “lust”, and “strong desire.” Finally remember, the tenth commandment helps us see that even though our evil desires never reach the stage of conduct, they are sinful in the sight of God, and need always to be under the control of His spirit. Take my advice, “Don’t take for granted the sin of covetousness, because it is the fountain from which flows the poison of idolatry, hypocrisy, Sabbath desecration and false worship.
Through the sin of the tenth commandment, disobedience to parents is a common scene these days, and murder is like a game to those who commit it. With the high rate of divorcement through adultery, and the uncontrollable rate of acceptable fornication, stealing, and lying. The sin of covetousness stands at the root of all these sin, so let’s keep our eyes in our own cup today!
Lastly, the Bible say’s when “all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.” May we find time today to reread the Ten Commandments and stand off and reflect on, “THE BLUEPRINT” and standard of the judgment!

Today is a great day to praise the LORD for the things He is doing around the world through all Ministries. Although the work of spreading the gospel in different countries is moving ahead by human hands, it is not advancing as it should advance, yet, that which has been accomplished affords reason for gratitude and grounds for encouragement. To add to this great work of finishing the work of God is this ministry (Garden Ministry). We need your help; more and more people are seeking for Garden Ministry to be translated into their language. If you would like to translate this devotional and send it off to your friends in different parts of the world, please do so. You have our blessing.
