Knowledge

This is the letter: 47

Text for the day: 2 Chronicles 1:10

Now give me wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?”

Our Theme for the day: Knowledge

Have you ever been so down that the people you seek advice from have nothing good to say but gloom and doom? This is the story of Job in the book of Job. Than Eliphaz and Temanite answered [Job], should a wise man utter such windy knowledge [as we have just heard] and fill himself with the east wind [of withering, parching, and violent accusations]? Should he reason with unprofitable talk or with speeches with which he can do no good? (Job 15:2-3) At a time in history when Job the riches man of His time was seek comfort and hope, because of his lost and sickness. His friends looked to find fault with his walk with God. Job would go on to say, "My words come from my upright heart; my lips utter pure knowledge. (Job 33:3) This is the character of the true servant of God at all times, they have a upright heart, and speak only pure things or pure knowledge ever flows from their lips.

Knowledge, what is its definition? The sum of what is known, (Webster Dictionary). Some say there are four types of knowledge: bookish knowledge, general knowledge, discriminative knowledge, and practical knowledge. But if this is all the servants of God have to give to a world in need of a Saviour it is not enough. Bookish knowledge is superficial. It is temporary and transient. It lasts as long as it is in our head. We fill our heads with bookish knowledge, go to the examination hall, write our answer paper and return empty headed. General knowledge consists of ordinary acumen and intelligence which give you a keen insight or discernment of the subject. A discriminative knowledge, which comes from knowing right from wrong, has in it a call to work from common sense. Both general knowledge and discriminative knowledge are essential for life in this world. In India the washer man goes from house to house collecting clothes. He collects many clothes, but he does not keep any written record.

In the evening, he returns all the clothes to the respective houses. Many educated people could not do this; it is an example of general knowledge. We have it from our birth and it should remain with us all our lives but to many they become sidetracked. And fourthly there is what we call practical knowledge, knowing how to keep it simple. This practical knowledge is changeless. True and eternal education never changes, it opens the heart to recognize the unity of which we are all but a part and, in doing so those who understand aspire for the welfare of all. A fully educated person is one who manifests these qualities, truthfulness, compassion, and one who is reliable, caring, and at oneness with God through Jesus Christ.

In Psalm chapters 14:4 and 53:4, David asks a question that speaks to us living in the twenty first century.
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, which eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD? These workers of iniquity, who have no knowledge, are those who are the seeker of carnal knowledge. These are they which would not learn from the words of their God sent teachers. These are they which refused to respect the LORD. These workers of iniquity reject all advice and pay no attention to God when He warned them. But the day will come when they will eat the fruit of their own doing, and they will be stuffed full with your own schemes. Let us not kid ourselves; sin and self-satisfaction bring destruction and death to stupid fools. But if they listen to the Lord, they will be safe and secure without fear of disaster. (Proverb 1:29-30)

My follow servant leaders, the time will come when God will tell you to fold your hands and stop your service in the place you are called to serve. Because there is nothing more He can do in offering a vehicle of service through you for the salvation of mankind. The word of God says; "Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; Proverbs 1:29-32

The Bible does not stop there, but goes on to portrays God as a God of hope, He is always looking for the best in man, and we as His servant leaders should look for the same. In verse 33 of the same chapter it says, "But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.” Today let us not be like Jobs friends, Eliphaz and Temanite who offered no words of hope, but let us be like Jesus who saw the big picture and was ready to offer hope through the knowledge of His word.
