"Am I my brother's keeper" (Part 1)

What is God’s design for mankind to his neighbor?

He designed that we should be openhearted and honest to each other.

With affectation, meekness, humbleness, and a spirit of simplicity God ordain.

Through the power of God you can be watchful and caring for thy brother, interested in the welfare of your neighbor, and cherish a kind, loving spirit toward all.

This is the 196th letter:

Text for the day: Ecclesiastes 7:9 (New King James Version)

Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.”

Our Theme for the day: “Am I my brother's keeper?” (Part 1)

Our Devotional

Lately, I have been greatly disturbed by the lack of love that mankind
has for one another.
Most of us go to bed at night only to wake in the morning to hear the
news that someone has been killed in our cities or on our streets.
When you take a walk through your community, you are quickly
alerted to the fact that the children are no longer playing in our
backyards. Neither do we see our seniors out to the bus stop
waiting for the bus in large numbers as they did in the past
because many people are living in fear.
It seems that we have forgotten that we are our brother’s keeper.

Years ago this experience did happen. In Genesis 4:6-10,
the unforgettable happened. Two brothers, Cain and Abel got
into a fight, with the older killing the younger.
Most people read this and say; “well he just killed his brother”.
But is this the true picture? Can we glean any lessons from this
first murder on planet earth? I believe we can!

Paul, when speaking to the church in Rome, encouraging them
in their trying times by saying, “For whatsoever things were
written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through
patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
Romans 15:4

This is the purpose of God’s word, it brings light to a world that
set it in darkness,Isa. 60:2, comfort to those that are comfortless
Psalm 119:50, and spiritual hope to the hopeless 1 Cor. 13:13.
Today working minds are seeking for the answer to our problems
in the streets of our cities and in countries across the world.
But how many people are looking to the Bible? If we are truthful
with ourselves, most people will say they look to everything else
first and then look to the Bible when it comes to seeking an answer.
Professionalism has its place in aiding those in need also,
but it should always be with the word of God for lasting results.
As we look around this morning, we see many of our neighborhoods
and countries held hostage by violence.
Everyone is longing for a change for the good, but how to get there
they are not sure. The answer can only be found in the word of God!

On the job market today there are so many people looking for a job.
To be honest I wish we could be able to help every need in this area.
But if every one looking for a job found a job, will they sense the
importance’s of being committed, on time, honest, and their
brothers keeper?
In Genesis 4:6-16 God is seen asking
Cain five questions,
and Cain is seen asking God one question. Join us tomorrow
when we shall look at the first question put forth by God.

Hello Friends,

Sorry we didn't get to visit with you when you were here. We were look forward to hearing all the news from Bermuda the way you see it. Our boys don't seem to be in the know. I enjoy the Garden Ministry when I get a chance to read it. I wish it was a little shorter.

I am so far behind with my e-mail. I have 2290 unread messages.

My husband has slowed down so much in last few weeks. He is anxious to start the kemo for the cancer. Now two more things have come up. They want to operate on his thyroid first because it is taking the calcium out of his bones. Now he has to see a doctor about his heart before anything is done. Please keep us in your prayers.

With love,

Lucy & Alvin
