THE EVIL EYE OF GOSSIP Part 2 (Think before you speak)

This is the 57th letter:

Text for the day:
Psalm 34:12-14 (King James Version)

What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Our Theme for the day: the evil eye of Gossip Part 2
(Think before you speak)

Gossip destroys relationships, and a relationship destroyed breaks down groups, which led to a fragmented nations, and finally broken homes. This is the main problem of the world, broken homes. But have you asked your selves what is the root or starting point of our broken homes with broken families, in a fragmented nation, with there uncontrollable groups? The answer is talebearing or gossip. The Scripture says: "The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied." Proverbs 19:23. "What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." Psalm 34:12-14. The words of wisdom "are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh." Proverbs 4:22. True religion brings man into harmony with the laws of God, and the civil laws, physically, mentally, and morally. It teaches self-control, serenity, and true temperance.
In the Greek there are three words that describe gossip, or talebearing. “Psithurismos meaning to “whisper", phluarus – meaning "to babble", and diabolos – meaning " to throw through, to slander" is referred to in these texts.
Psithurismos meaning to “whisper"
Romans 1:28-33 helps us to see that a person who has a demon of gossip in them is filled with unrighteousness, they are full of deceit, and love to gossips and slander". Note, as it was in the days of Paul, so shall it be in our day. But the question is what shall be the end of the talebearer? The Bible says, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
In 2 Corinthians 12:20, Paul was concern with those in the church who love to slander and gossip. Where by he said, “For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:” This should be every servant leaders concern also.
Phluarus meaning "to babble"
In 1 Timothy 5:13 – Paul is now called upon to warn the church of being idle which led to people, (members) gossiping and becoming busybodies." “And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.”
Diabolos meaning "to throw through, to slander"
Some would ask does the Bible speak to women who love to talk about others. The answer is yes, in 1Timothy 3:11 the bible calls women who love to gossip involve in "malicious gossips.” Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. The same wording is found in 2 Timothy 3:3 - "malicious gossips" and Titus 2:3 - "malicious gossips.” Remember the religion of Christ ennobles the mind, refines the taste, and sanctifies the judgment. It makes the soul a partaker of the purity of heaven. Will you not walk in its way today?
IF ANY MAN AMONG YOU SEEM TO BE RELIGIOUS, AND BRIDLETH NOT (does not keep a tight rein on) HIS TONGUE, BUT DECEIVETH HIS OWN HEART, THIS MAN'S RELIGION IS VAIN (he deceives himself and his religion is worthless-NIV)-James 1:26. Hey, I’m keeping one finger on my mouth today less I forget to think before I speak and be caught in the evil eye of gossip.
Tomorrow join us as we shall look at what leads someone to become a talebearer or gossiper.
