Pray That We'll Be Ready Part 2 (No Evil Shall Come to the Righteous)
Because
thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, Even the Most High, thy
habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh
thy dwelling. Psalm 91:9, 10
The
present time is an overwhelming interest to all living on earth. Just look
around and see how the rulers of countries, and elected statesmen, these men and
woman who occupy positions of trust and authority in government, thinking men
and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking
place about us. They are watching the relations that exist among the nations.
They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element,
and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take
place--that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis. At the same time,
the Bible and the Bible only, gives a correct view of what is really happening.
Through
the pages of the Bible are revealed the great final scenes in the history of
our world, events that already are casting their shadows before, the sound of
their approach causing the earth to tremble and men's hearts to fail them for
fear. The Book is clear, "Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and
maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the
inhabitants thereof; . . . because they have transgressed the laws, changed the
ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured
the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate." Isaiah 24:1-6.
"Alas
for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the
Almighty shall it come. . . . The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners
are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. How do
the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no
pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate." The vine is dried
up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and
the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is
withered away from the sons of men." Joel 1:15-18, 12.
"I
am pained at my very heart; . . . I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast
heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. Destruction upon
destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled." Jeremiah 4:19, 20.
"Alas!
for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's
trouble; but he shall be saved out of it." Jeremiah 30:7. But the greatest
consolation we have to this is found in our text of the day found in Psalms
91:9-10. Which say in short, “No Evil Shall Come to the Righteous. So take
courage in God’s word, “O daughter of Zion, . . . the Lord shall redeem thee
from the hand of thine enemies. Now also many nations are gathered against
thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion. But they
know not the thoughts of the Lord, neither understand they His counsel.” Micah
4:10-12. He will not fail His church in the hour of her greatest peril. He has
promised deliverance.

Pray That We'll Be Ready Part 1 (Be Sober)
THE
end of all things is at hand: be you therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” 1
Peter 4:7.
Change is the end result of
all true learning. It was now the closing out of message to the disciples. Matthew
26:41. Jesus would remind them that should, “Watch and pray, that they enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Yet in Luke 21:36, Dr. Luke said, “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye
may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and
to stand before the Son of man.” Then further in Mark 13:33 it is said, “Take
ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.” In these texts we
see that the messages are addressed to those who will be living in the earth
when the end of all things is at hand.
It is therefore a
Heaven-sent message to the generation in which we live. The fact that the end
of all earthly things is at hand constitutes a mighty challenge to sober watching
and earnest praying people. In the ancient sanctuary services, the plan of
salvation was seen in its daily and yearly service. But on the annual service
called the Day of Atonement, the typical service showed how God will one day
take away sin in the end for ever. This solemn service was figurative of the
close of probation and was indeed “the time of the end.”
The
solemnity of the occasion sobered all Israel. All festivities ceased, and all
forms of pleasure seeking were discontinued. The Day of Atonement was heralded
by the blowing of trumpets, which continued for ten days. This period was known
as “God’s loud call to repentance.” It reminded the people that the day of reckoning
had come, when all sins must be confessed and forsaken, or the sinner would be
“cut oft” from among the people of God.
From
the first blast of the trumpets till the close of the Day of Atonement the
people became more serious and diligent in the all-absorbing business of
getting rid of sin. More and more time was devoted to prayer, and the prayers
became increasingly fervent until the tenth day of the seventh month, which was
a day of prayer and fasting. Because the end of all things pertaining to the
typical services was at hand, the Israelites were sober and watched unto
prayer.
When
the sun set, marking the close of the day, they were on their knees, praying
that the Lord would seal their names in the book of life. Are you praying that
God would seal your name in the book of life heaven? Are you longing to see His
face? Come to Him now, because we have a high priest up in heaven. He's
our Defender before the Father. He's in the temple made by God, not man. Hebrews
9:24 / Hebrews 8:2
Behind
the veil in a place Most Holy. He is Investigating and clearing the records of
our sin. Of those redeemed by His own blood. He's blotting out my sin, and your
sins, in the sanctuary. He seals my bond with Him, and your bond with Him, in
the Sanctuary up in heaven. He is making provision for me and you today in the
Sanctuary that we may be with Him forever. Will you not say yes Lord? Come in
today, come in to say, come into my heart Lord Jesus.
