"The steeper the mountain the better the view" Part 3 "TRIED FROM WITHIN"

This is the 187th letter:

Text for the day: Psalms 17:3 (New King James Version)

“Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.”

Our Theme for the day: “The steeper the mountain the better the view” Part 3 “TRIED FROM WITHIN”

Our Devotional

He had just come out of the hospital yesterday. Everyone including himself thought he was getting better. But after six long weeks, Jim was still feeling worthless and ugly. Speaking out for the first time openly Jim said, “I feel like someone has kicked me in the stomach 1700 times, it hurts so bad. The only upside is that the voices have stopped. It’s so quiet now. I’m alone.” Jim fits into a growing number of people around that are recovering from attempted suicide. According to Answers.com, “Throughout the world, around 2000 people kill themselves each day! That means that 750,000 people die from suicide each year. You have a bigger chance of hurting yourself than you have of being hurt from another person! This does not even take into account people who try to kill them-selves and fail - in the US alone, around 300,000 people every year survive a suicide attempt for one reason or another.” What do you do when you are pushed to your last, or when you are being tried?

In Hebrews 11:17 the Bible paints an honorable picture of Abraham when he was tried by saying, “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son.” What a test he had to bear not at the call of men, but God. But why would God test Abraham like that? May be the answer could be found in a question and then a statement. Did you not know that God take’s delight in His children being tried? Now before you stop reading just keep on going for a few moments more. The Bible reminds us that, “God trieth the hearts and reins” of His servants. Psalms 7:9

You may be asking another question, why does God try His people? The answer can be found in Job 23:10,But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Has it not occurred to you that in order for God to see the real you or intent of the heart, like gold you must be tried.

Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.” Psalm 17:3

Today if you are tried and feel pushed to irrational behaviour or even spiritual suicide then stop and look up because God is still standing behind all of His promises. He says, “And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say The LORD is my God.” Zechariah 13:9

1.      Take time to read James 1:12,Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” James 1:11-13 (in Context) James 1 (Whole Chapter)

2.      Don’t forget, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” 1 Peter 1:7

Finally my fellow brothers and sisters, the next time you are tried remember that Jesus understands and is able to deliver you. Like a tried stone Christ our Saviour is able to take your burdens of life and give you comfort and a will to go on. Like a tried stone Christ our Saviour is able to bare your wait and troubles, and in return give you peace and rest. People may not understand you, but Jesus understands your hurts and sorrows. He is the great sympathizer, and has the oil of love to close up your wounds. In the words of David let us exclaim, "When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." Ps. 61:2. Oh yes, that is higher than I.

"The steeper the mountain the better the view" Part 2 (I'M NOT GIVING UP)

This is the 186th letter:

Text for the day: Jeremiah 17:9 (New King James Version)

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who can know it?”

Our Theme for the day: “The steeper the mountain the better the view” Part 2 (I’M NOT GIVING UP)

Our Devotional

Today we are looking at the second part of Jeremiah 17:9. In the creating of the world, the Lord designed that mankind should be active and useful. Casting visions for the care of the earth was second nature for Adam.  He before sin came on earth lived totally in Gods will without the propensity to sin. The Bible does not give us how much time Adam and Eve lived in Eden, but after sin entered the earth, Adam and his wife was put out of their Garden home. As Adams posterity grew and as more children where born to them, they started to live as useless machines, as though they hardly existed. Instead of them living to make others better, they brighten the path of none, and became a blessing to none. They lived only to burden others, so far as their influence on the side of right was concerned.

As we review this story we must ask ourselves these questions today. Is there any change in the people of the twenty-first century, or are they making the same mistakes as those of ages past? In the line of our relationship to God, and our fellow men, how many of you prize service to others as of highest priority in your life? Someone may be saying, “You don’t know what I have to go through everyday!” But I say to you, stop complaining, and break out of your excuses; we all have steep mountains to climb. In order for us to see what God wants us to see, we must go up some steep mountains, or meet some life test. In other words, we need to always remember “the steeper the Mountain the better the view.” Another way to answer this question correctly, I would dare say, is that many are in the same place the Israelites found themselves in during the days of their journey in the desert for forty years.

Like them we must admit that we have not been faithful stewards. Many today have forgotten that God has claims upon them and that He designs what they should be, godly and a blessing to others. With so much to do, sad to say some have fallen of the track of giving to others through selfish interest that has attracted their minds, and led them to a spirit of forgetfulness of God and His purpose in their life. But although you may find yourself at that place today remember, God has not given up on you. You may have given up on yourself. But He has not given up on you.

His words to you are, “Let all who profess to be servants of Jesus feel the duty that rests upon them to preserve their spirituality in him and their bodies in the best physical condition of health. Let them also feel the duty that rests upon them that their minds may be clear to comprehend heavenly things.” Remember the great controversy between good and evil is over the mind, so guard your heart according to the Bible, which is your mind. According to our text for the day we can only trust the word of God and not out hearts. “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who can know it?” Who?
“God is wise in heart and mighty in strength” (Job 9:4). Stop what you are doing and give your heart to God. Ask Him to give you power to control your heart which is your mind, for it has a most powerful influence upon the health. The imagination left often misleads, and when indulged brings severe forms of disease upon the person. In other areas many die of diseases which are mostly imaginary. Think faith, talk faith, and live in an attitude of faith. Always remember, our relationship with God is liken to a marriage, work with it, because “The steeper the Mountain, the better the view.”

"The steeper the mountain the better the view" Part 1

This is the 185th letter:

Text for the day: Jeremiah 17:9 (New King James Version)

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who can know it?”

Our Theme for the day: “The steeper the mountain the better the view” Part 1

Our Devotional

Summer has just past, and those living in the north western part of the world like me are trying to get all the sun light possible. We are living in the season of fall, known as the not so hot, or neither too cold part of the seasonal year. It is during this time of the year that people or committees are casting visions for the coming year. But we must always ask ourselves, am I speaking the truth. For instances, after a meeting for the wellbeing of home, the success of the business, the upward mobility of the school, or the expansion of the churches influence in the community is finish, you need another meeting to explain the first meeting. But the question is asked why? Why do most people feel like someone was holding out, or not telling the truth after a meeting? The answer can only be because in most meetings everyone is not converted.

Jesus words to Peter are fitting at this point, “When you are converted straighten the church”. An unconverted person can not straighten, but only try to outwit the guidelines of the family. Be it the home, business, school, or church. So what does it mean to “tell the truth”? In the days that I grow up in Bermuda, children understood the phrase always tell the truth. In those days children were careful never to utter a lie, and if they did they where shameful of it. In those days we had to memorize Bible text in school, (“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight,” Proverbs 12:22, NKJV). Later we learned that the same book that condemned verbal dishonesty also castigated non-verbal deception. A liar is one “who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plots evil with deceit in his heart” (Proverbs 6:12-14, NIV).

Those where good days that every word spoken you could rest your last dollar on it. In out text today Jeremiah reminds us that, “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who can know it?” Absolute honesty: Is it necessary? As one reads through the Bible, it becomes evident that the Scriptures insist on total truthfulness and absolute honesty under all circumstances. John Murray states, “The Bible throughout requires veracity; we may never lie.” Augustine sent caution to those in his day saying, “Nor are we to suppose that there is any lie that is not a sin.” And Ellen White warns, “Falsehood and deception of every cast is sin against the God of truth and verity.”

Furthermore, truth-telling is not merely an external issue. The Bible says: “Deceit is in the heart” (Proverbs 12:20; cf. 6:14; 23:7). Jesus points out in the Sermon on the Mount that all sin really begins in the heart which is the mind before it finds expression in our acts.  (Matthew 5:21, 22, 27, 28). Therefore, as Bok rightly notes, deception is “that which is done with the intention to mislead” Thus, “an intention to deceive is what constitutes falsehood.” Today God is calling us to absolute honesty: because it is necessary for the uplifting of His name. May God help us to this end!!!

"The fruit of Submission" Part 2

This is the 184th letter:

Text for the day: 3 John 2

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth"

Our Theme for the day: “The fruit of Submission” Part 2

Our Devotional

Personal religion and good health is of the highest importance. John wrote to Gaius, when he said under inspiration, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" 3 John 2. So what is Personal religion when it comes to Bible truth? Personal religion is the outgrowth of an inward change of the mind from sin to righteousness. In other words, personal religion revealed by our words, and actions, or by in simple words our deportment. Personal religion causes growth in the Christian, till at last perfection claims the commendation of the Lord, “Ye are complete in Him" Colossians 2:10. Isn’t it interesting how in every generation there has been men who have encourage their generation to seek purity of religion through personal works, but this is false.

Paul reminds us that our righteousness is, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit” Titus 3:5. In looking at the second part of the text John was concern with the health of the Christian. Pure and undefiled religion doesn’t just lead to an outgrowth of an inward change of the mind from sin to righteousness, but to works of mercy and love also. This religion is necessary to good health and happiness. Good health allows the servant of God to go further and bear longer the load of Christian duty. Good health also complements the spiritual growth by helping to open the window of the soul heavenward, letting in the sunshine of God's love. It is through this two fold union that the Christian has true serenity and composure of the mind.

When the child of God’s soul is prospering, then will their physical, mental, and moral strength increase, because the atmosphere of heaven as a living active agency fills the soul. Finally, when Christ Jesus is formed within the mind there is no fear. Here are three practical ways to overcome your fears.

1. Take out time to Exercise.

Those who work with people who are mentally challenged say, “Physical activity boosts the immune system and strengthens the mind and body. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that help promote a healthy mind and body. Exercise can also take your mind off your worries.

2. Take time to set short and long term goals. Taking out time first thing in the morning to set your goals for the day is important to overcome your fears. Psalm 5:3 says, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” A. Be specific, with your short term, and long term goals. B. Keep it simple. C. Try to complete your work for the day. The more you complete in a given day, the more confident you'll become in the Lord. Confidence is a powerful tool for removing fear.

3. Take time to talk about your success. Most leaders agree when they say, “Fears can multiply when you bottle them up inside you. When you let fear build, it snowballs and gets bigger and bigger until it becomes terrifying to you.” Taking time to talk about your fear with the Lord, and or someone you can trust can help relieve the pressure of fear and give you the confidence you need to move on.
