Before Honor Is Humility. By Johnny Hunt
Text for
the day: "Before
destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility."—Proverbs
18:12.
Our Devotional
One day after Jesus
arrived at Capernaum, He entered a house, and His disciples came to Him and
asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? To help them see the
folly of their question, Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in
the midst of them and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and
become as a little child, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Note
whenever Jesus seeks to put people back on track, He never ambries them in
pursuing them.
This is the principle
that bears sway in the kingdom of heaven.
1. Always uplift and seek
the good another and not yourself.
2. Never do anything
through the spirit of pride or love of distinction.
3. Never think of
yourself only nor of the reward you seek to gain, but rather how you can render
back to God your gifts you received from Him. Knowing that anything less than
that, is not apart of the kingdom of heaven but the ranks of Satan.
To fill a high place
before men, Heaven chooses the worker who, like John the Baptist, takes a lowly
place before God. The most childlike disciple is the most efficient in labor
for God. The heavenly intelligences can co-operate with him who is seeking, not
to exalt self, but to save souls. He who feels most deeply his need of divine
aid will plead for it; and the Holy Spirit will give to him glimpses of Jesus
that will strengthen and uplift the soul. From communion with Christ he will go
forth to work for those who are perishing in their sins. He is anointed for his
mission; and he succeeds where many of the learned and intellectually wise
would fail.
In the words of C. H.
Spurgeon, may we never forget, “When destruction walks through the land, it
casts its shadow; it is in the shape of pride. When honor visits a man's house,
it casts its shadow before it; it is in the fashion of humility. "Before
destruction the heart of man is haughty;" pride is as surely the sign of
destruction as the change of mercury in the weather-glass is the sign of rain,
and far more infallibly so than that. "Before honor is humility,"
even as before the summer, sweet birds return to sing in our land. Everything
hath its prelude. The prelude of destruction is pride, and of honor, humility.”
Finally, let not the spirit of selfish pursuit be your downfall, but rather keep
humble, and always be a learner in the school of Christ.

Today is a great day to
praise the LORD for the things He is doing around the world through all types
of ministries. Although the work of spreading the gospel in different countries
is moving ahead by human hands, it is not advancing as it should advance. Yet,
that which has been accomplished affords reason for gratitude and grounds for
encouragement. To add to this great work of finishing the work of God in this
generation is (Garden Ministry). But we need your help; more and more people
are seeking for Garden Ministry to be translated into their language. If you
would like to translate this devotional into your language and send it off to
your friends in different parts of the world, please do so.
If possible, share with us your response.
